I honestly have no response to that. I'm speechless.

Oh, I'm far from worried about it. I'm not Wiccan, so I couldn't care less... but her saying that Wicca = suicide, paranoia, and insomnia is just so inane that I couldn't come up with a decent response. *grins*

Fluffy Goth!
It's people like this that seem to be passing it around that being Goth means being all depressed and angsty. "It's a reflection of the darkness of my SOUL, man!"

I personally enjoy dark stuff. It makes me happy. I don't seek it out because I am depressed and moody.

I completely agree with you -- I'm pretty far from angsty or depressed, and I love dark music -- goth, industrial, experimental etc.

Comments like hers undermine goth and Wicca, because they present oversimplified and/or inaccurate ideas to a wide audience. This definitely contributes to the sp00ky kids who think goth is about being depressed and/or Satanic, or the teens who come looking to Wicca for love spells. To say nothing of the stereotype of the black-clad wanna-blessed-be.... [1] *sigh*

[1] Phrase stolen from Willow on Buffy and not my own -- thank you, Joss!

Don't usually post, much more the lurker, but this has driven me out of hiding. Not sure what makes me cringe more - Carlton as the "new American Goth" or the Wicca in her merging with the Eighties girl . . .

Oh dear. I respect that artist. Heck, I kinda liked her (though I don't tend to admit that).

Must say, better she do it than Avril Lavigne or someone... I always though Carlton had *some* idea what she was talking about... I guess we'll just have to see... but yeah, I'm not liking it right now.

If she comes out as a lineaged-coven-initiated Wiccan singing stuff reminiscient of Alice in Chains I may actually start a fan club.

*giggles*

as i posted before, my question was, who? i know who this person is now, and she's just another teen-teen talentless bint trying to make herself relevant. whatever. if 16 year olds are stupid enough to either a) listen to her crap, and b) actually pay attention and follow her, well, more power to them.

on the other hand, the next question is, why should i care? why do we allow suburbanite, white, middle-class mallrat teen-teens to dictate the social dialogue? i mean, seriously, what can they offer other than where the best sales are at the mall?

on the other hand, i have an inveterate crush on ira flatow. if he were to come out of the broom closet, i know i'd follow everything he proclaimed =)
