When Stuart Gordon Came to Town

There’s a week left for you to catch Re-Animator: The Musical in the Fringe.

You really should.

As someone who has avoided anything with the ‘The Musical’ tagged on to it over the years, trust me when I say,

You really should go and see this.

I was looking for something Lovecraftian to see this year and failed to spot anything, then, a random search of what was on one Friday served up opening night of Stuart Gordon’s classic horror film set to music and replete with Splash Zone.
Seeing his name, that of George Wendt (yes, Norm from Cheers), and a team including King of the Ants’ Chris L. McKenna, how could I resist and so a friend (who was sold by the time I got to George Wendt) was recruited to join me and so we headed to George Square for one of the best Fringe experiences of my many years attending.

Everything is Spot On, the gallons of gore, the lecherous ambition of Doctor Hill, the music (which, if I’m not mistaken, homages not just Hitchcock as the movie did, but also, Shadow of the Comet, an age old Cthulhu computer game that took up more hours of my life than it had any right to), the dedicated insanity of Herbert West, the very perky love interest and oh so much more.

All this delivered after a fairly disastrous get in that day, so even more kudos to the team.
Just go, honestly. Wear white clothes and sit up front so you can then proudly parade the blood soaking you know you desire.

You really, really should go and see this.

Last night, helping to round off my own Re-Animator experience, the Cameo held a screening of the original film with Stuart Gordon and much of the cast and crew in attendance. It was a brilliant affair and my heartfelt thanks go out to all who helped organise it.

Now, go get tickets.
