The Car Accident

Jan 09, 2006 09:05

Was at Delifrance on George Street with Daniel late last night when we both witnessed something very horrible before our eyes.

We were talking on how LQ created the hype for the gay folks in KL, when all of a sudden, screeching sound of tyres caught our attention, and 2 seconds later, we saw a car hit a lady who tried to J-crossed the street. The lady was hit so badly that her body was throwned up in the air before landing heavily on the ground, next to the car.

"FUCK!OMG!" Patrons including us in Delifrance shouted, and those waiting to cross on both sides of the street. The lady driver, knowing that she hit someone, came out from the car immediately and was obviously shocked by what just happened. The lady who was hit lie on the ground, lifeless.

If you think KL has alot of on-lookers when accident happens, you should see this in Sydney yourself. Of course some people there contacted the police and ambulance. Two thumbs up to the police and ambulance, they came about 10 minutes or less soon after the accident happened. Now I really shall not complain that the sirens create serious sound pollution in the CBD.

We thought since severe car accident rarely happens in Sydney, it would appear as headline or may be a full inside page on a local tabloid. Well, we were wrong. May be car accidents don't have news value in Sydney anymore. May be the racial riots in Cronulla and other southern beaches do. Well, I never really liked Sydney anyway, I'd prefer Melbourne. At least Melbourne has more disciplined pedestrians, more alert drivers, who drive in more sophisticated cars.

We still wonder if the lady hit by the car died. We still discuss if the lady driver would have her points deducted. One thing is for sure, we follow the laws more strictly than before. Stop when you see red, green you cross. Yes lah, I'm afraid to die.

We learnt something new, too - In KL, anything bad can happen. So can Sydney. 2 or 3 years ago a huge glass panel on World Square Tower failed to withstand the wind and fell to the street. We learnt that the grass is not always greener on this side of the world. Even Daniel is considering returning to KL, Ha!
