Voldemort lost the first war when he was almost destroyed by the infant Harry Potter. The Order lost the second war as now Voldemort, returned to power, controls the Wizarding world. thirdwar_rpg takes place at the beginning of the Third War. Each side has had a taste of success...which side will win this time?
Over the summer, Harry destroyed all but one of Voldemort's Horcruxes and while Voldemort has captured Harry, he has not killed him. For Voldemort knows that, Harry is, of course, the final Horcrux and thus, must survive so that Voldemort may live. Kept under close guard by Voldemort's most trusted servants in the most secluded and secure of Hogwarts' dungeons, Harry suffers daily his own excruciating pain: that of knowing that his life is the one thing that keeps Voldemort alive.
Voldemort has taken control of all things in the Wizarding world. He controls the Ministry of Magic and he controls Hogwarts. Hogwarts has re-opened and students have returned to finish their education, mandated my Ministry Decree and under Headmistress Bellatrix Lestrange. Draco Malfoy had been "forgiven" but only at the cost of his mother, Narcissa. Lucius remains loyal, on thin-ice with Voldemort, and has taken up the post of Defense Against The Dark Arts Professor, appointed by Voldemort himself.
Minivera McGonnagal, a former Order member remains at Hogwarts; and only because she served her Master well during his absence. She is, unlike Severus Snape, the true spy for the Dark Lord.
Snape has been demoted again to Potions Master, and resents the fact that Lucius has gained enough favor with the Dark Lord to be appointed to DADA Professor. He is back to his sour self.
Voldemort distributed Magical Journals to select Ministry Officials, Death Eaters and Hogwarts Staff. Certain members of the Order have also gotten ahold of these magical journals and use privacy charmed entries to communicate.
Headmistress Bellatrix Lestrange distributed the magical journals with an ordered Decree that each student is required to write in the journal on a weekly basis. Each journal's entries can be seen by all students, Hogwart's staff and select Ministry Officials. Students may charm some entries private, but excessive private entries will be punished. However, Hogwart's students are known to be clever and will most likely find a way around such rules.
All students return to Hogwarts as ordered by the Ministry. Hermione and Ron return to Hogwarts to complete their 7th year's education and play the role of spy for the small, but remaining Order members, lead now by Kingsley Shacklebolt, who continue to recruit and strive to vanquish the Dark Lord once and for all.
PLOT NOTE: Just prior to Harry's capture, he was able to relay a message to Ron, Hermione and Draco: that he himself is the final Horcrux and if things were ever going to change, Harry must die.
