There was a bit of liveliness going on. There was a real live protest down the street today, which was interesting to look at, albeit distracting. Seems a lot of people around here are very much against the President's health care reform plan.
Later, on the way home I saw one guy closer up the road, holding a sign to see before you hit the protesters, reading "Warning: Idiots Ahead" and wearing a dumb smirk on his face, like he was really pleased with how clever he was being.
It struck me as funny, though. As well as I could tell, probably 95% of the protesters seemed to be well-dressed, well-groomed, healthy and successful looking people. The counter-protesting guy? Very clearly subscribed to the newsletter for guys who think that grooming and dressing decently made you a tool of "the man," and that you shouldn't have to clean up to impress anybody. I wondered if he had cheeto stains on his fingers.
Usually, when I see folks with signs protesting the current administration, it's usually dumb, rednecky looking people with clearly too much time on their hands. Regardless, I always feel bad for the kids who get dragged out to these things. I don't think that is any way to shape a kid's world view. But now I'm getting away from the point of the post, so I'll draw the line here.
