My Super late yet epic obligatory Comic-con post (w/ pictures)

Aug 04, 2009 02:36

I put as much as lj would seem to let me under cuts so I apologize the the length. I hope you enjoy my report though. It took me like two days to type up and put together :D

But that just means that all the juicy stuff is already spoiled and I don't have to do as much work XD. There are scattered spoilers so spoilerphobes tread lightly.

First off San Diego was absolutely gorgeous. After being in dank little ol' Delaware all my life it seemed to take forever for my eyes to adjust. It was just so much brighter, even when there was overcast. It was also my first time this far West,

Before I really get into things here's the panels I attended:

Thursday:
Bongo Comics (Terry Delegeane, Bill Morrison, Sammy Harkham, Ben Jones, and Sergio Aragones)
Wonder Women: Female Icons in Pop Culture (Sigourney Weaver, Elizabeth Mitchell, Zoe Saldana, and Eliza Dushku)
Burn Notice (Bruce Campbell, Matt Nix, Alfredo Barrios Jr.)
Psych (James Roday, Dule Hill, Maggie Lawson, Tim Omundson, Corbin Bernsen, Steve Franks and the two other Executive Producers who's names excape me atm)

Friday:
Bones (Emily Deschanel and Hart Hanson)
Dollhouse "Epitath One" and Q & A (Joss Whedon and Eliza Dushku)

Saturday:
Some Marvel Comics game that looked cool but I didn't really care for (Stan Lee is the only one I remember)
Santuary (Amanda Tapping, Robin Dunne, Martin Wood, and Damian Kindler)
Glee Screening and Q & A (Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, the girl who plays Finn's girlfriend and the Executive Producers)
and of course Masqurade

Sunday:
Smallville (Tom Welling, Allison Mack, Erica Durance, Cassidy Freeman, Justin Hartley, Callum Blue, and Jeph Loeb)
SUPERNATURAL (Misha Collins, Jim Beaver, Eric Kripke, Ben Edlund, Sera Gamble)

Loot:
Burn Notice Shirt, Psych Shirt, Psych Magic Eightball, Psych Comic, Castiel Dogtag, Supernatural Mag subscription (finally I don't have to worry about getting it every 2 months and it was 20% off XD), Supernatural Shirt, Shigure Plushie, Radioactive Man Comic signed by Matt Groening (present for Dad)
So my first panel was for Bongo comic, it was pretty cool but I had really wanted to go to the Disney 3D panel mostly cause Tim Burton was there. Unfortunately the line was a mile long and overrun by overzealous Twilight fans. Even as a fan of Twilight I have a blossoming hatred for the fandom. But I like the Simpsons and Futurama so I still enjoyed the panel.

Because Line Waiting and Seat Hopping are the national sports of Comic Con I got in line right after the Bongo Panel cause I really really wanted to go to the Psych Panel (My love for James Roday is only seconded by my love for Misha Collins). So I ended up in the Women of Popculture panel but I wasn't really paying attention because I was planning my route to getting a better seat XD

I've never watched Burn Notice but I think I might start. The panel was absolutely hilarious even if I didn't have a clue what was going on. Bruce Campbell was definitely the highlight and he gave out money to like three people who complemented him randomly. I think one of them shouted 'I love you' at the begining of the panel and that's how that all started. I also got a free shirt out of the deal.

But the Psych panel was the best part of my Friday. They started if off by showing some footage of past seasons mixed with a few new clips. Actually the entire panel is avaliable on their offical site http://www.usanetwork.com/series/psych/video/fullep/index.html?id=1139858
James Roday was even more hilarious and hot in person. Dule was equally as hilarious and he danced for us. Maggie was a sweetheart, though I'm still a bit bitter about her going out with James. Tim was probably the most surprising. He was hilarious, I mean he's funny on the show but it's the deadpan kind of funny. Corbin didn't really say much but it's all good. Oh and they're gonna try to do a Musical episode which will be so epic if they can pull it off.

I spent a good deal of Friday morning scavenging the Exibit hall. So many people! Though I managed to find some awesome stuff including the table with the Supernatural merchandise. There was also this guy selling characatures of different cartoon and tv show character and I got a couple with Sam and Dean which were oddly adorable XD. Played some games and wandered the artist alley before I met up again with slaphappybunny and waited for her to get her Coraline autograph.

The Bone panel was really short, probably cause it took forever to file everyone in. David sadly couldn't be there because his wife is really close to her due date but he left a really cute little message for the fans. He can really ramble on though but is so incredibly adorable and spent most of his time making fun of Emily and Hart.

We decide to stay for the Dollhouse / Joss Whedon panel. Now I've never watched Dollhouse and have only recently become aquainted with Joss' work (don't throw onions at me) so I was really really confused about the episode they showed. But it seemed pretty cool, I might try and watch it sometime. Joss was really really funny, like he seems like the kind of guy I would just randomly and give him a hug just because. Eliza, I reconized as Faith (See I'm not completely in the dark), and she was really sweet.

On Saturday I did some more wandering around the exibit hall before spending the majority of the day in this beautiful building.

I didn't really care for the Marvel Ultimate Alliance panel except that it was kinda cool to see Stan Lee. I really didn't know anything about Santuary either and I actaully had a worse seat for the latter than I did or the former cause I seem to fail the most at his seat hopping thing. The seats themselves however were very very comfy espcially when compared to those in Ballroom 20 (on a very random note)

I did managed to snag a decent seat for the glee panel, which was good because that was the one I was actually looking forward too :D.  The showed the second episode from the series and it was amazing. Matthew Morrison singing Gold Digger was absolutely hilarious and Lea Michele singing Take a Bow made me cry. I love this show already. The panel itself was really cool. Matt sung part of his audition which was 'Somewhere over the Rainbow', A lot of the questions were directed at Matt and Lea and they're careers on Broadway. Someone also asked how exactly they would describe the show and Cory's answer was by far my favorite. He said something along the lines of "It's like High School Musical after it's got punched in the stomach and had it's lunch money stolen."

Here are some short clips that I took:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sunday was very very short but at the same time very very stressful and ultimately very very awesome. We got there at like 8:30ish in the morning and the line for the Smallville panel was already closed. Mind you the panel didn't start until like 10:30. And I almost had a heartattack because I was afraid that I would end up standing for the Supernatural panel (which in retrospect probably wouldn't have been that bad cause I might have been closer than I ended up anyway). But they finally made a line for those Supernatural people that at that point were just wondering around and waiting. I actually managed to get into the Smallville panel even though I haven't watched that show in 4 or 5 years. Tom Welling showed up, which was cool cause it was kinda a surprise and he's really hot.
The Supernatural panel is what I pretty much was looking forward too all week and it didn't disapoint (Although I wish I could've gotten a better seat) I really don't know where to start with this panel other than I'm so syched about Season 5. The 5 minute clip left me begging for more. I love loved when Dean used Cas's sigil and the was like "I learned that from my friend Cas." My fanigirl and shippy self flail with joy. Poor Cas is dead, though I know he's definitely coming back I'm still kinda sad. I just wonder how they're going to bring him back. And does this mean than Jimmy is gone for good? I really just hope they don't pull what they did with Anna's vessel. I'd be more than a little angry, pulled some favors my ass. I'm also really excited for this future episode. I'm pretty syched for this future episode they keep on talking about. And somehow it's linked to the croatoan virus. Why must September 10th be so far away? Anyway Misha and Jim were super adorable. It appears that not even Jim can resist the awesome that is Misha. And the whole thing about Castiel staring longingly outside Bobby's window had me in stitches.  I love Kripke. I really just wanna hug him and thank him for this show.
I taped pretty much the whole panel. But it's kind far and shaky but here it is:
*iz bringing a better camera next year*
And to non panel related stuff:
The convention center (well most of it)
The cosplay
The Exibits
All and all I had an amazing time. I sooo can't wait to go back next year. And a special thanks to slaphappybunny for letting me go with her :D
