Visas and Dodgeball

I have been getting flak lately for not keeping those of you who actually care up-to-date on my life’s happenings. To tell you the truth, you are not really missing out on much; a solid blend of work, working out, hanging out, reality TV, and that’s about all. The only things that differentiate the routine that are thrown into the mix are trying to gather the information to apply for my visa to Spain and also playing dodgeball. That’s right, dodgeball, on the intramural Compuware team.

The game itself gained popularity after the movie Dodgeball was released a few years ago. After that, apparently, many adult leagues have sprung up across the country. Don’t be fooled by the kindergarten reputation, this sport is as fierce as Tyra’s hair. To the point where my body is aching from playing for 28 minutes yesterday. The teams are mostly guys, but it is required to have at least one girl playing at all times. Therefore, everyone goes for the girl, because she is the “easy target,” apparently.

Our team, titled Assassination, differs from most in that we have two girls, myself and Amy, and we are not easy targets by any stretch of the imagination. We can hold our own dodging on the court, and actually got a few people out yesterday, which was awesome. The team won our first match up handily, and we were winning yesterday until it came down to the last game, and we ended up tying the set 7-7 (there are seven games in a set, each win is worth two points, ties are one point). Not too shabby.

As for the visa, I will be happy when this entire process is over. There is so much to do in preparation, and so much fear that you will miss one thing and have to scramble to get everything together again. I am flying to New York on the 27th at night, and have given myself two days to get the visa, just in case anything happens that needs to be corrected. I am NOT looking forward to awakening at 5:00 am just to get there, but you do what you gotta do, even if it sucks sometimes.

Tonight I am going on a shopping excursion to Somerset with my sis. I pulling out all the stops this summer and trying to save as much as possible. But it is SO HARD to save, especially when contrasted with how easy it is to spend. We’ll see what happens. I have a finite number in my head, so hopefully I’ll get there.
