Grabbed from
argylepiratewd/
glamzombiewd, though I've seen it in a lot of the places I stalk lurk, as well.
Completed fics 2010 18 of them! I am very surprised and pleased. Mostly surprised, since I'd never written fanfic (well, had only written Literary Fanfic) before. They can all be found on my AO3 account (
nonisland), although
"The Face That-" was originally written not in 2010.
Total word count: *grabs calculator* 21,836. (I also wrote a thirty-thousand-word piece of meta, and have multiple unfinished bits of fanfic adding to probably around another 15K.)
What's your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest? Well, I want to say one of the unfinished ones, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't count. I am kind of delighted with
"Growing Like a Waterfall" because it takes a character I am pretty thoroughly ambivalent about (good character in theory, handled terribly in practice) and made me really like her while I was working on it.
Okay, NOW your most popular story.
"After Albion", to my utter and complete lack of surprise. It's the only fic I've written with a major pairing.
Story most under-appreciated by the universe?
"Dream on Summer Eves", I think. (Technically I could say one of the Awesome Ladies Ficathon &/or
hooked_on_heroines pieces, but I screwed up and misdated one of them and just corrected it now, and in any case I posted 'em all within the past 24 hours. That said,
"She Went On" is going to be the most under-appreciated. I can just tell, and I'm not surprised-it's Srs Fic about a minor character, and I love it in an achey/glad way, but there's just not that much of an audience for it.) But "Dream on Summer Eves"? It's not a tiny pairing, it's in an active fandom, and it's adorable fluffy romance! Whyyyy is there so little love.
Story that could have been better? nrgh everything in
Backstage: Atlantis, all of iiiit. Especially the earliest stuff. Um.
"Four People Elizabeth Didn't Say Goodbye To (and One She Did)" came out pretty rushed, but that was because I was trying to keep it to a semi-reasonable length and not reveal any personal canon I might want to be a surprise later on in some other fic, while still connecting everything. (That 4+1? Personal canon.)
Sexiest story? Another one of the unfinished ones? >_> Um, of the finished ones,
"I Loved My Heart and Honour So". Yeah, there's…not much competition there.
Most fun story? Probably
"Growing Like a Waterfall". Or there's this really metatastic canon AU/fix-it I'm working on for SGA that makes me giggle a lot but that doesn't count because omg all of the self-indulgence ever. Or the
gazebo 'verse.
Story with the single sweetest moment? Either
"Glorious Feeling" or
"Dream on Summer Eves". I write way too much fluff for Merlin.
Story with the best 'yes that's it' characterization? aklfjsdlfk characterization is the bane of my existence. Especially since I actually spend a lot of time either trying to flesh out characters who are rather two-dimensional, or trying to spin badly-written characterization into something more believable and/or likeable. That said, I am pretty pleased with how
"When Planets Attack" turned out.
Hardest story to write: uh, the two increasingly long ones I'm in the middle of? >_> Okay, in all seriousness, of the completed stories, I'd say
"Ivory Tower", because I had to seriously twist canon to make…the rest of canon…make sense, and then I had a struggle with voice. I'm still not happy with it. None of the completed fics have been an emotional struggle, at least.
Do you have any fan-fic goals for the new year? Write more. Get a better grip on voice and characterization. Entertain people. Finish the bloody Merlin canon AU of DOOM; make lots of progress on Backstage: Atlantis. Play in new fandoms. Keep growing. Experiment; don't be afraid to screw up.
