All right, folks... I'm sure everybody's tired of hearing about this,
but a couple of questions are still nagging at my mind about that whole
nasty guest business of a couple of days ago.
This seems to be mostly agreed upon:
- on the 1st of April, having acquired a guest pass, a player either
of the character Brian DelVaux of Tapestries MUCK, or an impersonator,
signed on to Puzzlebox, intent on sex-play;
- this player was completely unfamiliar with Puzzlebox's background
and concepts, and showed a spectacular lack of understanding in how to
play well with others, much less basics like the instantiator and the
backup system;
- the character Brian DelVaux, and his player's reputation for poor
play, are at least somewhat known to some number of Puzzlebox's players.
And whackiness, as they say, ensued. So all that aside, this is what
I (and, I suspect, others who haven't spoken up yet) would like to
know:
- Who gave the player a guest pass? When last I checked, they
didn't grow on (Cube) Trees. It's likely to be a player on both
Puzzlebox and Tapestries (which doesn't narrow things down much),
although not guaranteed.
- More pertinently, why did that person give the player a guest
pass? Honest interest in the MUCK seems unlikely, due to the
player's unfamiliarity with Puzzlebox concepts. Was this someone's idea
of April Foolery, either on the player or on Puzzlebox's players or
both? Was someone intent on 'revenge' on Puzzlebox or some specific
person for wrongs real or imagined?
- Why hasn't the giver admitted being so, either on LJ or on
the wiki or (as far as I know) on Puzzlebox itself? Is the giver
congratulating him/her/itself on sowing chaos and discord? Cowering in
fear of discovery? Squirming in embarrassment? I see any number of
possible scenarios here, none of which seem more likely than others.
- Finally, what repercussions can be expected from this? Having
already been kind enough to make the guest-pass feature useable by all
players, do Puzzlebox administrators intend to lock it back down? That
would be a shame, but apparently some people just can't let a good
feature lie.
