“It’s an impressive collection,” Zexion remarks, and despite the situation Foaly smiles to himself, momentarily reveling in this praise of his inventions. Then reality comes rushing back, and he’s the only one in the room with a strange boy who seems to have somehow gotten past his perfect security.
“How did you get in here?” he snapped, struggling against the bonds that tied his hands together.
Zexion muttered something to himself, running a hand over an old pair of DragonFly wings. At last he answered, not turning around. “I will admit, your security was quite noteworthy,” he said, “but not enough to deter me.”
“Well, who are you?” Foaly demanded, because it was at least his right to know who had snuck into his workshop and was fiddling with all his precious gadgets.
“My name is of little importance.” Zexion paused, picking up Neutrino blaster. “Tell me, can you set these to kill?”
Foaly snorted derisively, then attempted to cover up the sound with a cough. “I don’t know why you’d need to. You seem perfectly capable of it on your own.”
At this Zexion did turn around, the blaster looking eerie in his hands. “I wouldn’t dream of dirtying my hands like that,” he replied dismissively after a moment of silence.
“Right. Of course.” Just like another annoying brat that had tangled with the LEP. How did they always manage to find themselves here?
Zexion smiled at the centaur, fingering the Neutrino lightly. “Now, it’s time for us to get better acquainted. I want you to tell me a little about these creations of yours. It’s for the good of everyone. I’m sure you’re keen on keeping your friends alive.”
Foaly licked his dry lips, staring at Zexion. Now would be a very, very good time for someone to come and save the day. A very good time indeed.
