To be honest . . . Jim had forgotten it was his birthday. For a guy who knew every last detail of his environment, he wasn't entirely sure what day it was.

Which is why he was a little confused when he got home with another new book for Lana and slipped into the darkened room. "Lana?" he called, padding inside.

"'M in here," she called, splashing a little so he'd know where to find her.

Jim paused at the door without going in, knocking lightly. "I'm back?"
