I walk from the Magic Box with my little carton containing the Orb tucked under my arm. It was interesting to interact with the Slayer's posse, and I'm glad I got at least half of the magic items I need. I doubt that they will contact me with concerns to the Codex, I sense the Watcher didn't want to give it to me.
They don't trust me.
Not that I blame them. I wouldn't either. As it is, I'm not on their side. I'm not on the side of evil either. I'm on my side, and I definitely am working toward my best interests. I don't want to plunge the world in darkness, but I don't want to risk my neck to rescue it either. Too many heroes end up dead.
...or in comas.
...and too many villains are too jaded by their own evil to notice the world around them. That's the problem, you fall down on one side and you become blind. That's why the Slayer's friends didn't notice the evil rising up around them, and that's why my brother's idiot group didn't realize that they may have already become pawns of something more evil than they ever could hope to be.
Regardless, it wasn't my duty to tell them unless necessary. Like I said, I don't play the epic good v. evil game, I just make sure there's a world that I can play in in the morning.
That's why I have left the so called Scoobies and come here. My next stop to make sure things went smoothly.
I kicked in the outer entrance and descend the steps down into the basement. I grimace at all the sci-fi memorabilia and smirk at the large marker board that can only be Andrew's.
"Don't look now, big brother's back in town!"
