The wind rises electric, and the fabric of reality starts to shift. My body is at once calm, a cool wash of euphoria rises over me...and at once violently ill. The nausea in my stomach is a strange off-set to what the coolness. This was what it was like

I'd take time to be impressed with the construction, consider it would be something we could use at Angel Investigations...if the object fired wasn't something that was being fired at ME.
I lean back and to my left, I imagine not unlike that movie with the men in trenchcoats that Cordy likes to watch for the...what did she call it? Keanu-goodness.
AS my body twists away, the wooden blade blasts past me, barely missing my skin, and ripping a nice horizontal line across the front of my shirt. It hits the wall behind me and combusts into a thousand splintery pieces as my body snaps back into a straightened stance.
The boy looks confused. I think he thought that that was it. He was going to be able to do me in with some fancy weaponry. For all the anger that is seething off him, in his scent...in his visible presence, it is incomprehensible that someone who seemed to be such a warrior would make such a blanket assumption.
"Connor, I don't know why you're doing this..."

Watcher's lookin at me now, scared, I think. That's just fine, he can just be scared of me, and we'll all be scared of eachother now. Don't worry watcher-boy, this particular beast's just as scared of you as you are of it. But- the burning don't get worse, does it? Never hurt this one, not a once. An he knows what I really am, got all that expensive book learning in his head.
I creep closer, Angelus is all kinds of busy anyhow, breaking in the new recruit, probably work him over good and proper. Hasn't even noticed one of his men got himself all chained up. I'll show him how helpful I can be, ain't completely useless, I can do this...
Key's laying there in the dirt, ol' Wes, he ain't dim, wiggling toward it the whole time. I pick it up and he looks dismayed, like he's lost a race or somethin'. Key in the lock and once he's out for a moment he just stands there, looking. I duck down quick, should have stayed hidden but I never know better. When I look up he's gone again. You'd think a fella would return the favor. Guess he hasn't got time.

But he was a lot quicker than I had imagined, quicker that Holtz said he'd be. Do I dare engage him in combat now, when my expectations were off? If I were to fall, I'd just be another victim of Angelus, and I did not want to go down like that.
He would repent his sins, and I would be the deliverer.
No.
I would wait, I would strike after I could do what all good predators do...
...observe their prey.
I flip around and fire off another stake, this one colliding into the wall, bringing a tumble of loose rocks down. Dust is kicked up, vision is obscured.
By the time they reacquaint their demon senses, I will already be as the clean air in this place is...
...gone.
