We get to the house in record time. Fred kinda drives like a maniac but it doesn't bother me. I don't think I'd be any better in this situation. And we're both pretty pissed off ( Read more... )

As Dawn calls out to the house, I grab Andrew and drag him by his ear (which I discovered was an especially useful technique in getting him out of the truck, so I kept on doing it) toward the basement door.

He's whimpering, and in a way I hate to be so harsh, but I think it will get us the info we need. He's like a soft pancake...lay on the syrup thick enough and he'll crumble.

...or something. Whatever, I do science, not analogies.

"I'm taking him downstairs, so when you get everyone down there...that's where we'll be."

I follow Mr. Giles further into the entryway, and he doesn't act like he wants to do anything awful to me just yet, so atleast that's a good sign, unless he's just playing it cool to really torture me. Which is BRILLIANT. Man, this side is already way cooler than whatever it was we had planned. I start to relax a little when BAM! The front door slams open and I jump and whirl around.

Buffy's little sister comes in with a very pretty brunette girl. How come I don't know about her? And, come to think of it, I don't remember ever hearing about the slayer having a little sister till early last year. It's almost like she just appeared or something. Well, she didn't, because everyone else remembers her...

"What are you doing here?!"

I hunch up and glare over at Andrew. Defecting to the side of good was MY idea!! What a giant copycat!

"Ow! Stop it!"

My ear was really hurting, and I bet it was turning red. I hated that. Tucker used to do this to me when we were kids all the time. It was embarassing. Now the fact that I was being hauled around by a girl...seriously even more mondo uncool.

...and to make matters worse, Jonathan had to be here to see it.

"What do you mean what am I doing here? What does it look like? They hijacked me like Kirk hijacked the Enterprise in Star Trek 3. I was minding my business when I was attacked by the wonder twins here...you gotta help me..."

My ear burns from a twist.

"...and make her LET GO!"

"Giles?" I call out again, letting Fred get past me, Andrew in tow. It's hilarious that he can outpower us based on size alone, but he's still getting dragged around by two girls, one who's sixteen and one who can't weigh far into the triple digits. What a wimp.

"The duct tape's on a shelf by the stairs in the basement," I call out after Fred when Andrew starts yelling. I turn around and it's - Jonathan.

What the hell? Is our house suddenly Nerd Central? Did I not get the memo? What is he doing here?

I narrow my eyes at him and shut the door, locking it behind me. "I think the question is, what are you doing here?" Man, I'm taller than him. This is cool. "Andrew was obviously dragged kicking and screaming. Did you come... on your own?"

I pretty much ignore Andrew, I don't want to, but what am I going to do? We're in their house and outnumbered, and besides, who knows what they've been trained to do. I sure as dandy don't want to find out.

The way she looks at me makes me pretty nervous. I mean, I'm sure Mr. Giles was just getting around to yelling at me, but Dawn actually looks like she might beat me up. I take a couple steps backward and I'm against the wall. No running now. I'm just gonna have to take whatever I've got coming to me.

"...I-i did. I-uh..."

Cripes, I know why I'm here! home come I can't just say it? home come I can't remember? ...what's my name again? I think I'm shaking. I hope I don't have an asthma attack...

Despite the fact that there appear to be two evil or formerly evil nerds in the front hall, my mind is still on my reading. It takes me a moment to asess the situation. Dawn is looking at Jonathan expectantly, while the pleasant Texan from LA, blast, why can't I remember her name? Fred! Right, I can't remember it because she isn't a man the size of a lumberjack wearing flannel.

"This is another of the ne- of Buffy's, well, former foes, then? What on earth are you doing with him?"

Jonathan seems to be having difficulty speaking.

"Jonathan did come here on his own. Well, he more, fell into the room on his own. We hadn't gotten to why he was here before you three showed up."

It was getting to be a regular party, and it seemed like the new guy with the geeky look was a friend of Andrew's. Giles seemed as perplexed about these new people as I was, so that at least indicated that I wasn't the only one who was a little lost.

"Is he one of your friends?" I ask Andrew, twisting his ear for good measure.

"What is up with you people, did you form a Star Trek convention of evil, or what?"

"Hey, Star Trek conventions are cool, I'm tired of people talking about how they are geeky. I got some quality bootleg DVDs at the last one I went to."

The room is quiet. Ok, I think I just overshared.

But what else can I do when my ear is being pulled?

"Jonathan, are you going to help me or what?!"

I have to roll my eyes. "They are geeky. And you don't get to talk anymore." Glancing at Fred, I nodded slightly. "Here, just tie him to the desk chair until we figure out what's going on with them."

Giles seems confused too, and Fred has no idea what's going on, having only just arrived. This is a nice 'Welcome to Sunnydale' banquet for her, I think. Like, 'Welcome to Sunnydale, home of the evil and really weird'.

"Alright," I cross my arms over my chest. It would be nice if Giles could take charge for like, once, but he seems to be pretty confused with Jonathan and us dragging Andrew here and all. "We'll keep Andrew quiet for now," turning to glare at Jonathan, "until we find out what you're doing here."

My first reaction is to defend Star Trek, because if we'd been using that particular galaxy for a model we would have figured out from the start that good always wins, no matter what odds...but I think that might not be the best idea at the moment, and besides, Andrew beat me to it.

"Uh- defecting!" I blurt it out in a way that makes it sound less than true, but really I just don't want to find out if Buffy's little sister got any of her strength. I look at Dawn, then shoot a quick sideway glance over at Andrew, more than a little nervous about his rath, too.

This isn't going to be any fun, is it?

I'd really rather continue my research than deal with these useless prats at the moment.

"I've actually got some research to do. Dawn, you seem to have this under control. I'm just going to take my books into the dining room."

I walk to the living room table and start gathering my books. I know that Dawn expects me to take charge, but fixing Buffy is just more important right now.

"Now hold on a minute there, mister. You're walking away when we have the boy who put your Slayer in a coma to do research? Not to mention his happy friend here turning himself in? I don't think so."

I can feel the room pausing, looking at me. I guess I'm meek little Fred so often that when I have these outbursts, it kind of takes people off guard.

"You want to go do research to help Buffy when we have the best resource to fix her right here!"

I twist Andrew's ear, he yelps.

"...he did it to her, and maybe he knows how to undo it? So don't give me that forlorn British act, cause I'm giving you the Texas doesn't want your emo counteract! Don't leave us with these two, or you'll be totally disproving everything Wesley told us about you as a Watcher...and someone who cares."

She twists my ear again.

It hurts. How was I reduced to this? Shatner would never be taken down by some waifish girl.

Well, unless she was a Vulcan. I wonder if the Vulcan nerve pinch can effect the ear lobe? Spock never used it there, but I bet if...

"OW!"

I look at Mr. Giles pleadingly.

"Please, listen to her. She's crazy!"

"Shut UP, Andrew!" I'm getting irritated. Too many people, and none of them are making sense. Except Fred. It's weird that the only person I can really relate to is someone I've met only about an hour ago ( ... )

I remove my glasses in frustration. It is, of course, possible that these boys could know something. I find it much more likely, however, that they have been dealing with magicks and demons that they never fully comprehended and therefore do not have the knowledge to undo what has happened to Buffy. However, it is worth a try, and if it fails, my books will still be on the table, and Buffy will still be... where she is.

"Right then. Everyone into the living room. You two," I point at the nerds, "Sit on the couch and stop talking unless you are asked a question, in which case you will answer quickly and honestly. Dawn and Fred, grab a couple of chairs from the dining room, so we can all sit down and attempt to be reasonable about all this."

((OOC: Sorry about the simultaneous post))

"Dawn, you are upset, but I am not giving up on Buffy. If anything ever happened to one of us, she didn't give up on us. She didn't give up on me when I was turned into a Fyarl demon, and I am not giving up on her when she is in a coma. You cannot blame someone for the decisions they make when they are not in their right mind. She was poisoned. We don't know what kind of effects the toxin had on her." I take a breath, slowing down.

"But for now, let's try to deal with these boys." I look at Jonathan and Andrew, who have still not sat down. "I believe I said something about sitting on the couch?"
