I emerge from the darkness of the building, and I squint as the light blasts my face. Angel had given me the full blown details of what needed to be done. I was to meet him in the park by the school when the sun went down, and then he and I were going to make history.
Both of us.
Together.
Cause...we're a team.
Han and Luke. Batman and Robin. Jonny and Hadji.
Angel and Andrew.
It has a great ring to it...doesn't it?
I am completely overwhelmed. Angel is doing something tonight that is going to change the course of events for the entire world, and he needs my help. If I were anyone else, I would question the motives, question the circumstances, heck I'd even question the plan. But I don't need to do these things, cause Angel picked me...because I'm, well I'm me.
He was able to see how suave I am, and how collected. He must totally recognize my mad skills. I mean, after all, I did beat Buffy, and even bad guy Angel couldn't do that. So that kind of makes me a go to supervillain. Though, since I was helping Angel, that meant I was working for the good guys now? Maybe I'm a free agent, like the Jerry MacGuire to the demon world. That'd be cool. After this, I can contract my abilities to the highest bidder. I could be a vigilante, a person that isn't on one side or the other...I could be...I could be just like my brother.
As I revel in all these wonderful new thoughts and images of where my life is headed because the coolest vampire who ever vamped wants to hang out with me, I wander across the Main St, and feel a pang of thrist. I have been awfully busy, what with scouting locations and being recognized for my greatness. The scent of coffee hits my nostrils and I realize I am standing near the Espresso Pump.
Normally I shouldn't have caffeine this late in the day, or at least that's what my mom used to say, but I just got the keys to the kingdom...it was a feeling that could only be matched by say, them finally releasing Brisco County Jr. on DVD. I had to get a drink to celebrate, even if that drink was just a latte.
As I make my way over to the counter, my eye catches some movement in the seating area. I see two women vacating their seats, apparently done with their coffee and on their way...and I freeze.
I didn't know the one, but the other's face I did recognize. How could I not?
The Slayer's sister.
This was not an encounter I was wanting to have, the coffee just was not that important. I pivot on my foot to turn and run, and then the most ironic thing happens...
...I trip over my own shoelaces.
As I crash to the ground in a heap of myself, drawing all sorts of attention, I can only think one thing:
"Why me?"
