I'll do the standard crap review of a gig to begin.
Chelmsford's monthly Indie night last night with double the amount of bands. Arrive at time of doors to find it's sold out, after last months health and safety defying feats its probabably good to have a limit on it though. Luckily manage to get on the guestlist thanks to my mate knowing the drummer of People in Planes and having a chance meeting with him outside.
First up are The Heights who are playing sit-down acoustic. sound okay. One of the songs was in Welsh though, which only Super Furry animals can get away with. And even then only just.
Next are The Amberblacks who sound exactly like every other "the" band. Weren't actively bad or anything but just very unoriginal. I predict big things for them.
People in Planes also go acoustic. Pretty tight sound even though the lead singer was losing his voice at the end. Worth checking out.Apparently they're much better electric.
Still unsure about The Crimealead singers voice kinda reminds me of Bright Eyes. they were okay but the place was by this point too crowded to see. or move. still can't really complain about seeing 4 bands for free and its always a nice change from the "rahh grrr everyone hates me" bands that I have to suffer through at the other venue in chelmsford.
Off out tomorrow in celebration of the new licensing act, before the government decides what a stupid idea it is and repeals it. first time i've been properly out in Chelmsford in ages, though i'm sure I'll realise why halfway through the night. then Stars at ULU which should be pretty cool next week.
