Where was I?
I was actually sleeping, in the midst of RA training, dreaming of the RA beach day we were about to have which was our time to relax and work on issues of diversity and how to handle them in the residence halls. I was awoken by a phone call from by boyfriend at the time who said, "We're at war!" Since he had been having major issues with his two roommates, I figured that's what he meant. He repeated himself and told me to turn on my television...and I saw the footage. I was shocked, stunned. I then received a call from my boss saying beach day was cancelled...we didn't feel much like playing at the beach on a day like today. We met briefly to talk about the situation, and then friends of mine and I went to wait in line for hours to give blood.
I called my mom, tried to call my sister at West Point...my mom was a little worried that she couldn't get a hold of my sister at West Point...being the head college for Army officers, she was worried that it might be attacked. It turned out that West Point had been evacuated for safety reasons, and sister was fine working on processing phone calls and paperwork for the FBI's side of the attacks.
I learned later that an acquaintance from high school died in one of the plane crashes, RIP Nicole...many loved you, and I wish I would have known you better.
The world changed, tributes were played, war was looming, uncertainty was the only certainty.
2 years later, we remember. Where were you?
