One Faith

My friend Josh and i were sitting in church yesterday. We got to talking, as there is supposedly an upcoming re-empowering of Christianity. This is an interesting idea, as people have for many years struggled to define what Christianity is. Now, bouncing around in my head has been a certain song by John Michael Talbot. He's a monk/worshipper who ( Read more... )

how about some backup for your side? anonymous June 30 2005, 09:25:44 UTC

Now then, you state yourself that there shouldn't be anyone between me and God, yet you support a government based church? What?

Let me ask, who governs the government then?

And, by the way, if there is final judgement, then what on earth was the whole Jesus bit for? If He saved everyone, then that kind of nullifies any need for judgement. (Or is that decision, to receive or reject him, the only decision thats judged, as I guess that would be a universal medium or something.) That brings up another bit about the salvation, did Jesus save everyone ever, or only people that hear about him? Kind of a sick thing to do to only save a select few people and doom the rest. Doesn't sound like something an all loving God would do.

I have found that for the most part, when men speak, they really are speaking of themselves, though they do not mean it so. You're entire argument simply states that you declare that you are not a god and cannot become one. (even though your apparent subservience to a church governed by men would communicate that you would let other men rule you instead of yourself, or at least, a God who is outside of you, anyone but yourself to escape being responsible. What on earth would you do with full reign of your being! Oh no, too much!)

I simply am trying to tell you that you can become like Jesus, and i mean that in every possible way, miracles and everything.

I do not fall in with the humanist bit that we create god, in fact, I think quite the opposite, He created us.

I think we actually agree on most points, though with different wording, except on one crucial difference.

I do not think any man should be accountable to any other man. We are all equal, all of us live, all of us eat, all of us breathe. We are all men. Not one is suitable to govern another. Church should never have become such a place. I like the way Jesus lived, and some other good points about christianity, but the idea of delegated responsibility seems about as anti-god as you can get. You SAY that its all about responsibility, but everything else you have said contradicts that remark.

I would suggest that you be wary of entering any priesthood or somesuch equivalent, as you have a serious inability to help me understand what it is thats so great about your religion that i should pay attention to it. So far you've told me that arguing about church being a liason is stupid, given me mixed messages about where God sits on the idea of responsibility, and told me that your faith is enough for you and if not for me then too bad.

Perhaps some lessons in constructive deliberation would help.

thanks for your time.

Oh, I agree about the miracles part, but not for the reasons you would assume. I personally have worked a miracle or two, performed a healing or so, and I speak in tongues when I wish to. These are not abilities that i possess, they are like my entire faith, on loan to me from God. As to my views about your own salvation, i told you how to be assured of such a salvation, but in the end the choice to respond to God's call is your own. I merely present the facts, it is in fact your choices (which your are entirely responsible for)that determine your status with God. Jesus didn't save everyone, He saved everyone who would trust in His death and ressurrection. Big difference. Those who come and trust in that will be saved. Those who don't after hearing Truth, well, their blood is upon their own hands. My job is simply to state the facts, not debate religious ideas. I am not into religion, I'm much more worried about God.

Now, if we are going to talk a government based church, I don't support it. Church governance and a biblical hierarchy (Bishops, Priests, Deacons)however is something I truly do support as there are men considerably more in tune with what God wants than I am. I submit to men who have more spiritual authority than I do because God commands me to submit to His delegates. Someone has to govern the church, and just as the people followed Joshua, Moses and Aaron as God's liasons so do I follow my bishop and rector as those same delagates. I've had several people read over these postings and I have sent no mixed messages. My stances are rather firm and straightforward.

As to your criticism of my ability to argue, i think i have addressed my lack of interest in debate, theology is one thing, but you might wish to read the first posting of this journal to understand why i don't really care about debate. From my perspective, and from a great many people's as well, this is not an idea of a religious or idealogical debate, this is simply a case of what is and what isn't. From my experiance and the collected experience of Christianity as a whole, God is God, we are His people. We didn't choose this, we actually have very little to do other than listen to what He wants from us. Whats in it for God is us. We are what He cares about, and if you love someone completely then you might have a slight understanding of why God would give his own blood to save us, those children who willingly walked away. now, please lose the snide attitude, i really don't appreciate it. If you'd like to talk in person or on Aim where i can directly address your concerns, my IM is in a previous post.

God Bless

Oh, and as to the selectiveness of salvation. Personally i don't know about everyone else. My concern really doesn't lie with them as its not my responsibility to proclaim the gospel to people in far places who haven't heard it. If it's given to me, then i will take that responsibility, but right now all i'm really concerned about is your salvation, your relationship with Jesus. I have told you what is. It is your job to respond. My reccomendation is to ask God, prayer is good for the soul.

life as a fallen angel has it rough.

its a good thing satan loves me, or all would be lost.

Then again, theres always Shiva. goddesses of destruction are good to pray too.

a saviour man-god designed to turn the population into mindless degenerates? nah. pagan gods may not save my soul, but they sure are more fun to follow.
