Geneon is shutting down

Apparently Geneon (formerly Pioneer) entertainment is shutting down. This does not bode well because of the number of anime licenses they have. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=1782 gives you a list of how many series they own. They are canceling all releases after Nov 6th and

Yikes... I hope this doesn't mean their stuff will be permanently unavailable.

What titles are you picking up? When I really look at it, they only have a few shows that are classics and worth rewatching (rewatch is the only reason I pick up titles). Not to say that I only watch subtitle groups, but I usually only watch until something is licensed. And then buy the licensed if then I'm satisfied with it.

Do you know if Noir, Ergo Proxy, Haibane Renmei, Tsukihime, Lain, Samurai Champloo, Fate/stay night, Texhnolyze is any good? I did look on reviews, but I like a personal assessment too.

I need to finally pick up FLCL. :-p

Noir is an older, but an okay one, but I didn't like the ending.

Haibane Renmei is very pretty, and I actually wouldn't mind picking that up. There isn't much story to it, but I liked the art.

Tsukihime I've only watched a few episodes of, it has the potential to be good.

Lain I have the boxset for, just never finished watching it.

Samurai Champloo is hilarious, it's directed by Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop). It's a good mix of action/comedy, granted there are a lot of side-episodes to the story.

Fate/Stay night I really liked. Classic regular person turns out to be a magician in a war for the holy grail in present day. I really liked the music for this series, and I liked the ending. This is the series that I will try and buy, I was waiting for the boxset, but there is very little chance one will be made now.

Texhnolyze I have no idea about.

It's really up in the air what will happen now, whether another distributor will pick up the licenses is sort of a long shot. But yeah reprinting the existing DVDs might be possible, but in terms of producing the actual DVD (subbing, editing, etc.) doesn't seem likely. It really sucks for series halfway done because they won't be finished.

But yes I'm concerned that they will no longer be available, so I want to buy them now before they get rare.

I plan on picking up Fate/Stay night at least (all 6 DVDs will set me back). I'd like to get Last Exile boxset if I can get my hands on one. Haibane Renmei I would also consider as well as Chobits. However they stopped printing CCS boxsets which really sucks.

I would but their anime stock is rather lacking, most are listed as "Out of Stock" or "Discontinued" >_
