A lot of things have been going on and plenty of them I intended to write up, but then I always found something else to do.
Last week was a disaster in work. Imagine making every mistake you could make for 4 days in a row and that's just about what happened. I didn't load a positive control for a Western blot (used to detect and quantify proteins of interest from a mix of proteins), I didnt cut my membrane the right way so that there was no chance of seeing our main protein of interest, I overran gels, I did this that and the other and it was bad. I decided it was probably because the weekend preceding was busy and I didn't have a chance to relax and recuperate. This week has been rather good, but I'd better not jinx it. Anyway, tomorrow's Friday. Hurray! I've had some long days, i.e., almost 12 hrs in lab today and yesterday I left late as well (more like 11 hrs, but not quite), so I'm ready for the weekend.
This Monday I got my official GRE score report and this made me very happy. I emailed my advisor the results and she was very excited as well. As I said to my postdoc, I am going to grad school. I've started to study for my subject test and am trying to develop an apprecitation for glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, Krebs cycle and such. Slowly, but surely, I will prepare for it. Come July I should know better when exactly I'm taking this test, but I think it will be in the fall, maybe October? We'll see.
Gabe had a bad day yesterday, which made it even sadder that I was late in returning, but today has made up for it it seems. This weekend we'll be getting the poor guy a suit. Neither of us particularly like malls (dislike is more the sentiment probably, except when we soften the blow with bookstore visits) or shopping, so we'll do our best to make the process as quick and painless as possible. There's also a big family gathering at my parents'. I like this; there will be plenty of good food, I'll get to leave the city for a bit and I'll get to see family. Also, it's a long weekend. I'll get to recover a little from these few long days and from the mall.
All in all, life is looking pretty nice.
