Title: A Night In
Fandom: Supernatural
Characters/Pairing: Dean, Sam, Bobby
Author: nomdeplume13
Words: 289
Rating: PG
Summary: Just a night at Bobby's
Warnings: None
Sam had just gotten dressed after his shower; his hair was even still a bit wet. He didn't know quite where Bobby had gotten that seemingly endless hot water heater, but he was grateful for it. Dean had the habit of rushing to the shower first and then staying in much too long--Sam teased him that he needed the hot water more for his achy joints, being that he was getting old now that he was over 30.
At Bobby's, though, there was no need for the younger brother to suffer in a cold shower, and he had to admit that he enjoyed it.
When he walked into the living room, he saw Dean was lounging at the back of the sofa, looking at ease as Dr. Sexy M.D. played on the screen in front of him. Bobby was busy making chili, and Sam had been in the shower. Otherwise, Dean would never have left it on and risk getting caught.
"You are an insensitive asshole," the female doctor said with a smack to the man's face. Dean hissed and Sam winced in sympathy. He remembered her. She had a strong arm.
Rather than give Dean any chance to cover that he'd been intently watching the trashy show, Sam hopped over the couch and snagged the remote out of his brother's hands. "Don't worry. I'm sure Dr. Sexy and his cowboy boots will get her back."
"Damn right they will," Dean said before he could stop himself. He turned to glower at Sam who just laughed and left his brother's guilty pleasure on the TV until Bobby returned and told them both to get that "stupid nonsense off his TV before it killed itself to end its suffering."
Title: Subtlety
Fandom: Supernatural
Characters/Pairing: Dean/Cas, Sam
Author: nomdeplume13
Words: 236
Rating: PG
Summary: They thought Sam was oblivious.
Warnings: None
They thought he didn't notice, and Sam just played along. When he watched Dean slide a piece of pie between them so that Cas could take a bite or two, he never mentioned it. When he noticed that his brother fell asleep on the angel's shoulder just before the credits rolled, he didn't wake him. He just offered Cas a smile and said "goodnight" before going to his own bed.
Gauging closeness, longing stares and the like was just about useless between those two, but Sam could still tell the dynamic had changed. The new touches were few, an "accidental" brush of their hands, a bump of the knees beneath the table, the curl of one pinky around another when they thought no one was looking, but neither would dare risk the attention holding hands might give them.
Maybe that was why Dean had looked so surprised when Sam, at the helm of the Impala while his brother slept, had driven them to a nicer hotel and gotten two rooms.
"What is this for?" the older hunter asked, staring at the key card like, well, Cas would look at a key card.
"A chance for you and your boyfriend to have a night alone," he'd replied with a grin. "Can't be much fun with me there all the time. And if I'm wrong about the fun, please don't correct me. Let me live in ignorant bliss."
Title: LSAT
Fandom: Supernatural
Characters/Pairing: Sam, Dean, Bobby
Author: nomdeplume13
Words: 299
Rating: PG
Summary: He didn't know why he retook the test.
Warnings: None
Sam didn't know why he'd decided to retake the LSAT. It wasn't like he was ever going to use his score for anything, but when he's realized that his last score had expired, it felt like that final bit of his life at Stanford was slipping away. He'd used Bobby's address, and ever since, he'd been trying to hide all of the law schools' promotional packs. He may not have scored as high as he had the first time, but 174 was hard to beat. And 170 was pretty damned impressive.
Bobby helped hide the law school materials, too. Though the older hunter seemed to understand why Sam had done what he did, they both worried about how Dean would take it.
"This one doesn't feel like those 'come to our school' packs," Bobby's voice said over the younger Winchester's phone. "You want me to open it?"
"Yeah. Go ahead," Sam said, ignoring the odd looks his brother was giving him from the driver's seat.
"Did you actually go and apply to any of these places?"
"No," Sam said. "I knew better than that. No time with hunting. Why?"
"Says here you've been accepted to the University of South Dakota's part-time law program on a full scholarship. How exactly did that happen without you applying?"
"I don't know. I swear I didn't apply," Sam said, only to hear Dean laugh.
"No, but I did." Sam stared at his brother. "You think I didn't notice all the mail coming in to Bobby's house? I may only have my GED, but I'm not stupid. I hacked into your LSAT website and sent out a couple applications for you to places that would let you still hunt part-time."
Sam didn't even bother to fight his grin. Sometimes Dean could really surprise him.
Title: Tiny Burden
Fandom: Supernatural
Characters/Pairing: Sam, Dean, the Samulet
Author: nomdeplume13
Words: 258
Rating: PG
Summary: Sam's kept it all this time.
Warnings: None
The amulet hangs around his neck, heavy and warm. He wonders sometimes how Dean didn't injure himself with it. It isn't as though they led a sedentary lifestyle, and it is only the fact that Sam keeps it under his shirt that the thing didn't swing up and smack him in the face during hunts. He certainly feels it moving a hell of a lot.
He sees Dean and his machete, charging into the vampire nest like a foolhardy idiot. Nothing too different from normal, it seems. He loves his brother, really he does, but his disregard for his own life makes Sam's own flash before his eyes sometimes.
Or maybe that's the rope that's suddenly around his neck and threatening to cut off all of his oxygen and making his world go black. Yeah, it's probably the rope.
What he notices next is his brother hovering above him and a serious pain in his chest. "Why didn't you tell me you kept the amulet?" Dean asked with an accusatory tone.
"I'm fine, thanks, by the way," Sam said.
"I know that. I just did CPR on you, and now you're bleeding because that damned amulet cut you. It may have also made me break your rib. I'm not sure, but we're getting you to a hospital." Through the pain, Sam vaguely made out his brother complaining about a stupid necklace messing everything up, yet he still swore he saw a flash of brass and leather as Dean carefully set him on the back seat of the Impala.
Title: His Corner
Fandom: Supernatural
Characters/Pairing: Sam, mentions of Dean
Author: nomdeplume13
Words: 248
Rating: PG
Summary: Sam liked the library.
Warnings: None
Sam immediately found his corner of the library. He found it in every library, in every town, in every state. There was always one spot that was just secluded enough with a table just big enough and a nearby chair comfortable enough that he could lose himself in research--and the occasional novel.
Dean had probably found his own corner, too, but his would be somewhere in a diner or bar where he observed the locals. He loved to people watch, and it made him more perceptive than the average person, more than Sam sometimes.
Sam, though, got enough people watching during their hunts, and he reveled in the smell of books and dust and must and ink. There was a copier near the corner in this library, and Sam could smell the warm toner. It brought back fond memories of errand running in school, picking up stacks of papers that felt like they'd just come out of the dryer and smelled of ink.
Occasionally an attractive woman would pass and take notice of the tall man reverently trailing his finger over a slightly yellowed page of an old tome or watch as he shifted his position so that he could more comfortably immerse himself in Kerouac. He sometimes caught them smiling at him out of the corner of his eye, and he would give them a flirting grin in return.
Dean could keep his diners and bars. Sam would take the corner of a library any day.
Title: I Want Pie
Fandom: Supernatural
Characters/Pairing: Sam, Dean
Author: nomdeplume13
Words: 296
Rating: PG
Summary: He was going to kill his brother, and witches.
Warnings: None
Sam may never have been as vehement about witches as his older brother, but he was beginning to see Dean's point. "I want pie," said the annoying voice to his right.
"Eat your meal."
"I did eat." Sam watched as his brother folded his arms across his chest and pouted, full-out pouted.
"You still have carrots to eat."
"Do I look like Bugs Bunny?" Dean asked as he kicked his feet off the base of the counter and spun around on the stool.
Sam grabbed hold of his brother by the shoulders and looked the annoying little brat--very little--in the eyes. "You look like you're five years old, and you look like a spoiled little snot. Cas is looking for a solution, but until he fixes it, you need to behave yourself. Do you understand?"
Large, green eyes rolled exaggeratedly. "Don't let this power all go to your head. I'll be back to normal in no time. And I'm not exactly defenseless either." Before Sam could ask what he meant, he saw his brother's lip poking out and small hands going to rub and closed eyes. Then, Dean said loud enough for everyone in the room to hear, "But you promised me pie." He followed it with some well timed sobs.
The now-older brother gave Dean a look that clearly said, "Really? you're going down this road?"
"I don't like carrots. Mom knows I don't like carrots. You'd know it too if you were ever around."
"Oh, good Lord," Sam muttered.
"I haven't seen you in months, Daddy. You said we'd spend the day doing whatever I wanted, and that there'd be pie."
"I hate you," he said before breaking down and ordering apple pie. He decided that he also hated witches. A lot.
