Warnings: Takes place during Order of the Phoenix.
Prompt: Distort
“You are nothing but a pathetic excuse for a human being who was too much of a coward to do the right thing and too much of one to even be good as a Death Eater,” Sirius snarled at Snape as they exchanged insults in the halls of Grimmauld Place. Harry wasn’t yet there to stay for the remainder of the summer, but many of the members of the Order of the Phoenix were, and they were all accustomed to the arguments.
He waited for Snape to retaliate, or even to raise his wand to him like he seemed to want to do at the moment, but instead, his face went from livid to a very nasty smile. It warped the man’s features, this smile. Sirius should have remembered it from their childhood and walked away before Snape went in for the kill, just as he always had when he smiled like that. “You two-faced traitorous son of a bitch.”
“A coward? A traitor?” Snape said, smoothly. “I wonder, then, why is it your friend Lupin so easily accepts me, even smiles at me.” His own grew wider. “He trusts me implicitly, though I bear a dark mark and got him tossed out of Hogwarts.” He leaned in close to Sirius’s ear and hot, stale breath delivered the message home. “Does it never trouble you that his faith in me remains undeterred, but he was certain for twelve years that you were a murderer?”
Snape pulled back and looked smug when Sirius couldn’t come up with a single retort.

Characters/Pairings:Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Severus Snape
Rating: PG
Word Count: 191
Summary: Severus wonders why Lupin trusts him.
Warnings: Takes place during Order of the Phoenix.
Prompt: Distort
Severus truly hated his own mind sometimes. Ever since his encounter with Black, he’d been contemplating his own words to the mongrel. He’d been trying to taunt him, asking why the werewolf that hung around with the mutt was so certain Black had betrayed them, but never doubted Severus. The problem was that he didn’t have the answer, himself.
What was it about him that made Lupin trust him so completely, more so than his best friend? He had done nothing except betray others his entire life. He kept everyone at a distance, let no one in. Why would the man he’d called a monster for going on twenty years forgive him so easily?
Those thoughts were not helped by word that Lupin had disappeared from an order mission just days after that meeting and that fight with Black.
Not that he was worried about Lupin at all. Worrying about his former colleague might imply something about Severus had changed sometime without his notice, that he’d gained back the heart he’d declared long-since dead.
Denial was an amazing thing, almost capable of convincing Severus that neither of those facts were true.

“I am going to enjoy this,” Greyback said with a feral grin. “I’ve been waiting years for this.”
“I didn’t know you had such a grudge against me to want to kill me so much,” Remus said, trying to resist the part of him that was supposed to back down to his sire.
“I want to kill everyone,” Greyback said, pressing his nose to the juncture of Remus’ neck. “But that wasn’t the intention with you. Never was.” Remus, bound as he was could feel sharp teeth at the juncture, just putting a bit of pressure there before biting down. It was a place that, in wolf form, they were known to bite as a sign of affection. Remus knew that, but there was nothing affectionate in the overwhelming pain he felt as teeth sunk in further than was right.
Then the teeth pulled away. “I’m not supposed to sap your strength too much,” he said, still grinning madly. “But I can entertain myself other ways.”

Summary: Severus gains a cellmate
Warnings: Takes place during Order of the Phoenix.
Prompt: Distort
Severus hadn’t heard much movement in the cells, but in the darkness and otherwise silence, even the faintest scuffling of a rat was deafening. However, he was certain the loud scraping and fighting that he heard were not a mere rat.
A spell was cast, lighting up the cell and nearly blinding Severus in the process. Once his eyes adjusted, he could see his captors, still masked, dragging in a very familiar body, one that was resisting them with whatever strength he had left. His efforts doubled when he saw his cellmate.
The Death Eaters shut the cell door and left Lupin with Severus. The apologetic look that the nude and decidedly abused-looking man gave him only proved to the potions master that it was near the full moon.
“Just end it quickly, Lupin,” he said.
Rather than answering directly, he said, “They’ve had me here three weeks.”
Which meant no wolfsbane, which meant Severus would be at the werewolf’s mercy.
He tried to hide his fear, but he knew he failed as he watched the first part of the transformation hit. Through his horror, he felt some empathy for the man crying out in pain as his body was morphed and snapped and bent in odd angles. He hoped Lupin would kill him rather than turn him into that.
He didn’t know if he should thank or curse his jailers for illuminating the room. At least he knew when the werewolf approached him. He didn’t run, but merely exposed his neck, a nice juicy vein that would kill him swiftly.
He felt teeth and a faint nip, but not even enough to mark, let alone break, the skin there. Then the wolf awkwardly settled its head beneath Severus and inhaled deeply, letting out what sounded like a contented sigh.

Summary: Morning comes after the full moon
Warnings: Takes place during Order of the Phoenix.
Prompt: Distort
Trapped in the Death Eater cell, Severus wondered at the werewolf curled into a ball at his side. He hadn’t quite reached the point of being able to drift off to sleep while the creature was in the room, but he had mostly accepted that Lupin wouldn’t tear him to shreds. To be honest, the werewolf was acting like a domesticated pet rather than the wild animal that had filled many of Severus’ nightmares.
He heard the thing whimpering and the potions master could only guess that the sun was coming up, forcing it through another painful transformation. Severus started to pull away, not wanting to be around if the thing decided in its pain to chomp down on him. And, if he were honest, he didn’t want to watch.
Then the wolf nudged his thigh, and Severus found he didn’t like the sad expression in those amber orbs. It made him feel sorry enough for the thing to actually stay.
“I’m not moving, but no biting.” Severus knew that Lupin hadn’t had the wolfsbane potion, but he almost suspected the thing understood him.
Then the transformation happened, this time, it seemed easier than Severus had remembered the one the night before. He watched Lupin’s body shift and warp, but the eyes held his own, even as he whimpered in pain.
Tentatively, the dark-haired man stroked the wolf’s fur gently, in hopes it would ease that pathetic noise.
“Severus,” said a hoarse voice. He stilled his hand’s movement and pulled away. It wasn’t because he feared rejection or repulsion, he told himself. He was just getting a blanket so the man’s abused body wasn’t on display.
He didn’t care as Remus smiled, thanked him and drifted to sleep against him when he took his place on the floor again.

Summary: Remus wakes up with Severus.
Warnings: Takes place during Order of the Phoenix. Implied past rape.
Prompt: Distort
Remus’ body ached, but surprisingly enough, not more than before the transformation. Given the extent and type of injuries he’d suffered under Greyback, he’d expected to feel considerably worse. Yet, Severus’ presence had comforted him. He remembered little about the night except that the man had been there and that had been a good thing.
A very good thing.
His eyes shot open and he tried to move just too quickly off of the somewhat soft pillow beneath his head. As he gathered his wits, he realized it was not a pillow but Severus’ leg. He tried to sit up from his place on the hard floor, only to be reminded again of what had happened. His mind was still trying to catch up to that fact, and the issue with Severus was much more present.
He found he didn’t have the energy to fight the other man as he tried to inspect his wounds. “These are not all self-inflicted, are they?” Severus asked, not sounding like he expected an answer. “Are any of them?”
Remus tried to stop him as the Slytherin pulled back the blanket and looked lower than just his chest. “Bite marks... Human... ish.” He could feel a hand at the small of his back.
“No... Don’t...” He couldn’t have Severus know this. Not this. Not him.
The hand stilled and Remus held his eyes shut and simply didn’t breathe, waited for a remark from the man. When he finally looked, all he saw was incredible anger that changed the man’s already harsh features. But the eyes weren’t looking at him.
When they did, finally, Remus caught something before the careful mask went up. Some of it was pity, but there was a brief softness that changed Severus’ face as much as the intense fury had.
Title: Confused Death Eaters
Fandom: Harry Potter
Author: Nomdeplume13
Characters/Pairings: Fenrir Greyback, Remus Lupin, Severus Snape
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 219
Summary: Fenrir expects to find a bloody scene.
Warnings: Takes place during Order of the Phoenix. Implied past rape.
Prompt: Distort
Fenrir was nearly giddy as he and the other Death Eaters headed down to the cell to see the mess that Lupin had made of Snape. He’d bit the boy young in hopes of guiding him and training him for himself, but the boy had escaped and was now a man, a man whose wolf would be taught exactly what he was and who he should obey. The taste of human flesh would bring out the animal in him, and Fenrir knew it wouldn’t take much after that to finish breaking him.
And it had better work, too. The Dark Lord hadn’t been pleased when Fenrir had suggested setting Lupin, who he’d had tied up in the former wine cellar of Malfoy Manor, on Snape. Animal or not, Fenrir thought it was poetic justice for Snape. His attempt to find and probably save Lupin had been what proved him to be a traitor. It was only natural he die at the werewolf’s hands.
“Greyback!” Snapped Mulciber as he reached the door to the cell. “You said he’d kill him!”
Fenrir looked in at the cell to see a still-alive Severus Snape shifting Lupin behind him to take a protective position from where they sat on the floor.
The other Death Eaters murmured their shock, but Fenrir growled in indignation.

Summary: Severus starts a counterstrike.
Warnings: Takes place during Order of the Phoenix. Implied past rape.
Prompt: Distort
Once, a very long time ago, when they had been students at Hogwarts, Severus a seventh year and Thornfinn Rowle an obnoxious third, the young student had thought he was powerful enough to take on the skilled older Slytherin. Severus had disarmed him, but had not given the boy his wand back properly. This bit of information nagged at Severus’s mind as Rowle stood at the bars of Severus’ cell that he now shared with a very abused and weak Remus Lupin.
Another bit of information, one he’d begun studying much more recently because of the connection between Potter’s wand and the Dark Lord’s, joined the first in its nagging.
He shoved Lupin out of the direct path of wandfire and shouted, “Accio Rowle’s wand!”
The wand apparently remembered that duel over a decade ago better than Severus and flew into his hand.
A new duel began before anyone could signal an alarm and Severus proved his skills had only improved since his years at Hogwarts, disarming and cursing the Death Eaters and giving Fenrir Greyback a particularly nasty “Crucio!” He nearly lost track of how long he held the beast under it.
While the small handful were otherwise occupied in their pain, Severus cast his patronus charm, watching the swirling silver vapor twist and shape. Like every time before, it began to take it’s normal form, but as he heard Greyback recovering from his spot on the floor, the shape warped and made the potions master swallow.
“Albus, Lupin and I are at Malfoy Manor,” he instructed his new patronus to say. “No idea why this is now a wolf. I will seek answers on that after you get us out of here.”
He watched the wolf charge from the room, seeking the first way out and to Dumbledore.

Summary: Albus gets Severus's message
Warnings: Takes place during Order of the Phoenix.
Prompt: Distort
Albus had been in the middle of a discussion with Alastor Moody about locating both Severus Snape and Remus Lupin when Fawkes suddenly burst into flames. At least, it would have been sudden if Alastor were not so paranoid that he’d been expecting it and Albus didn’t know his bird so well. He watched as the phoenix, small and odd looking squirmed from the ashes.
Fawkes always looked so strange on his burning days, a small, squawking thing climbing from a pile of dirt. So different from the brilliant bird that normally sat perched next to Albus’s desk.
Only a moment or so after the strange little bird had poked his head out, it began to trill. The noise was nowhere near as pleasant as when he was in his full form, but Albus knew well enough to pay attention for something to come.
And it did, in the form of a wolf that he nearly mistook for Remus’s patronus until it spoke. “Albus, Lupin and I are at Malfoy Manor. No idea why this is now a wolf. I will seek answers on that after you get us out of here.”
There was no request, which Alastor was quick to point out, saying it was likely a trap. Albus knew better. A polite or grateful request from Severus would have made him far more suspicious than the abrupt message relayed by the wolf. It would seem that, indeed, there would be questions to come, ones Severus would not probably care to find the answers to, but for now, the Order of the Phoenix had a rescue mission.

Prompt: Distort
Remus watched as Severus approached him again, his face showing nothing but fury. It changed his features even more than the pity Remus was certain he’d seen in the man’s eyes when he realized what Fenrir had done to him.
“We are going to talk,” Severus said in a tone that let Remus it would not be up for debate. The man used a wand “borrowed” from a Death Eater to perform a few healing spells and finally transfigure the thin blanket that covered Remus’ body into a passable robe. “Later.”
“You’ve gotten better at transfiguration since school,” Remus remarked, meaning it as a compliment. Severus sneered at him and told him to be quiet; the Gryffindor acquiesced. “I have sent out… a patronus,” the potions master said. “Albus should know it’s mine, regardless.”
“There is a chance he wouldn’t?” Remus asked, earning himself a glare even as Severus helped him to stand. It was an odd experience, to have someone looking like he wanted to kill Remus on the spot as he offered a potion-stained hand to aid him to his feet.
“As I said, we will talk.”
Remus moved gingerly, the bruises, the cuts those were familiar wounds, it was Fenrir’s repeated assaults in the weeks since the former professor had been captured that troubled him most. (He wasn’t going to begin dwelling on the emotional impact of it. He couldn’t.) To his surprise, those were healed along with the rest of him, thanks to Severus. He looked at the man, questioningly.
“I have been in this… mess far too long to go without knowing how to correct those injuries as well.” Remus now was left to wonder if it was for the sake of others or himself that Severus learned the spell.

Rating: PG-13

Summary: Sirius takes on Death Eaters
Warnings: Takes place during Order of the Phoenix. Implied past rape
Prompt: Distort
Sirius had waited originally for Dumbledore to tell him he had to stay behind rather than help with Remus’s rescue. (And Snivillus’s as well, his mind supplied.) He’d managed to use his animagus form to sneak onto Malfoy Manor’s property and welcome the rest of the Order in after disarming two idiot guards.
He had to be grateful for small favors, like the fact that all Blacks were allowed onto the Malfoy estate, despite the fact that Andomeda and Sirius were both considered traitors to the family line. He transformed back into his human form, and with the authority as a Black, Sirius was able to let the entire Order of the Phoenix, or at least the contingent that had come on this mission, through the gates of Malfoy Manor and helped them begin a covert assault on the Death Eaters there.
The mere fact that there was no sign of most of the “inner circle” seemed to prove that Voldemort was elsewhere. However, seeing his cousin’s home now turned into nothing more than a glorified prison and hideout made Sirius smile through his worry for Remus.
With the rest of the Order at his side, he made his way down to the Malfoy cellars. Used for wine and other nefarious purposes over the years, Sirius knew enough about them to know where to find them. Kingsley and Tonks took up either side of him, and they made their way through the halls and down the stairwell.
Sirius tried to contain his surprise when he saw a very worn-looking Snape supporting Remus as he stood beside him without uttering a single complaint.

Prompt: Distort
Severus could hear them clamoring around Lupin’s bedside. None of them knew the full extent of the werewolf’s injuries, just himself, Lupin and Madame Pomfrey. Severus wondered if he shouldn’t have cast another Crucio on Greyback for good measure.
He didn’t bother dwelling on his reaction to Lupin’s assault. Instead, he focused on escaping this flood of goodwill for the werewolf in the hospital wing and return to his dungeons, after the obligatory visit to Albus’s office.
Standing from his bed, Severus looked up at Poppy, daring her to tell him to rest, as she usually did after he sustained the Cruciatus Curse for any extended period of time. He never listened, and he wouldn’t tonight, either.
He gave Lupin a nod when the man smiled at him. No one else noticed he was there, let alone that he left. Severus had no doubt he and Lupin would talk, but tonight, Potter and Black, along with half the order was concerned over the man who had been gone for three weeks. They paid no attention to the one missing for only five days.
Moving about the familiar hallways, Severus walked up to the headmaster’s office after giving the gargoyle some ridiculous candy password.
“Severus, my boy,” Albus said with a smile, then allowed the potions master to describe the events of the last five days, looking all to understanding about the odd occurrence the night before and that morning. Albus seemed to understand why the werewolf Lupin had been so calm around him, but he only asked, “And your patronus? Have you cast it since?”
He hadn’t but it was as good a time as any to try again. He wasn’t sure if he was disappointed to see the wisps hesitate a moment before again morphing into a wolf.

Summary: Remus tries to explain.

Prompt: Distort
Remus made his way down to the dungeons later that night. Sirius was asleep in the chair by his bed and Poppy had gone to bed, herself. He didn’t want this conversation to wait, though he knew there was only one way it could end. Once it did, Remus suspected that no amount of wolfsbane would ever ease his transformations, even if Severus was still willing to offer it.
His werewolf had been pacified with what it had been looking for its entire existence. Being denied would destroy both sides of Remus’s personality. It could even make him into the kind of warped monster that Greyback had become. But Remus knew he’d die first.
It wasn’t a moment after Remus rapped on Severus’s door than the man was answering it.
“I thought you would stall,” Severus said. Remus hadn’t expected a hello, but he was surprised when the man stood aside and let him, without the hint of an interrogation.
“I knew you wanted answers, but… I don’t think you will like them.”
“I’m sure I won’t, but I desire them, regardless.”
Remus nodded, not daring to ask to sit down. He’d be thrown out immediately. Yet, he couldn’t find the will to actually say the words. He thought he’d become braver than this. Weeks of torture at Fenrir’s hands seemed to have had their desired effect. At least, he preferred to think this was a temporary affliction, one brought on by the monster biting him, scratching him, tearing into him.
Remus felt strong hands on his arms and he looked into dark eyes that held more concern than Remus would have thought them capable of showing. “You’re going to lie down. Talking can wait.”
