Name: Dragon
Journal: dragonoflife
Contact: AIM: Dragon of Anger

Character Name: Jecht
Series: Final Fantasy X
Gender: Male
Age & Canon Point: Never specified, but with a 17 year old kid, 40+ is most reasonable. Canon point is before the opening scene of FFX
Requested Sponsor: N/A
Entry position (Cadet, SeeD, Instructor, other): Instructor: SWM 101 & AER 101
History: Good ol' FF wiki.

Abilities & Physical Abnormalities: Jecht is capable of holding his breath underwater for a length of time verging on the insane. This is inexplicably common in the X-verse, and is in keeping with Jecht's skill as a Blitzball player. Jecht is superlative at the sport, even in middle-age.

Jecht is skilled with fighting in a furious rush of fists, feet, and sword. He has incredible natural talent due to the physical conditioning that makes him such a good blitzer, and his time spent with Auron and Braska on the pilgramage gave him ample opportunity to hone his skills and abilities as a fighter. (This is Dissidia-based, admittedly, but Jecht is never observed fighting in FFX canon.)

Jecht is also Braska's Final Aeon, but if it's acceptable I'd like to handle that in this matter: Braska's Final Aeon is a GF, but unlike a normal GF, to use it in any way Jecht would need to Junction himself to it (as Ultimecia does to Griever) rather than the other way around. Since that is a process which strips him of control, placing it in the hands of the Final Aeon instead, it is something he avoids doing at all costs. (His doing so might make for a fun plot someday.)

Jecht is also the core of Sin, around which the beast would be reconstructed, but since neither Yu Yevon nor pyreflies exist in the FFVIII world, this is a nonissue.

Personality: On the outside, Jecht is arrogant almost to the point of being a jerk. Years of blitzball stardom have clearly gone to his head, and he never ceases to remind anyone (his son included) that no one can match his performance at the game or the skills he has to win. This isn't unjustified -- he DID create his own (entirely overpowered) shot, and he knew how to work a crowd, as evinced by his skillful marketing of said shot as "Mark III" to lure crowds in to see a nonexistent Mark I or II. Accustomed to fame and glory, he seems to expect parades and celebrations for his deeds. Despite all this going for him, though, his career had started going downhill thanks to his problem drinking; he was saved from shame or retirement only by being kidnapped by Sin.

Despite his ego, Jecht has a lot of positive qualities: he's generally a helpful, decent man in action. During the course of Braska's pilgrimage, he often dragged the Summoner and Auron into helping out in various situations by insisting it was the "right thing to do". Along the way he took numerous videos (spheres) of the trip, intending to show his wife and son them when he got back to Zanarkand; when he realizes that he never will, he continues to do so, leaving them in the hopes that someday his son will see them. At the end of the journey, his desire to help the world, coupled with the knowledge that he can never go home again, lead him to essentially sacrifice himself, becoming Braska's Final Aeon so Spira can know a few precious years of peace.

That problem drinking that had spoiled his life and was infamous enough that even the people in Spira who knew him picked up on it? He quit cold-turkey after one idiotic mistake which caused his friend Braska hardship; he'd realized he was shaming not only Braska, but his wife and son as well. From that day onward he never touched a bottle again.

All bets are off when it comes to his son, though. Jecht is, quite frankly, a terrible parent. Somewhere along the line he got the impression that the right way to raise a child is to belittle that child so he decides to toughen up and prove Jecht wrong. Jecht routinely berates and abuses Tidus, telling him he's a crybaby and will never be anywhere near as good at anything as Jecht is. He... means well, but it's still pretty horrible. Jecht believes in his son, though; he honestly expects the best out of Tidus. He just can't express any of these sentiments. The closest he can come is telling Tidus, in a sphere, "You're my son" -- which means a lot from Jecht, given how he sees himself, but then he immediately gives up on saying any more with a muttered, "I'm no good at these things."

What are your plans for the character in-game? Jecht is going to be a pretty good guy and a pretty terrible Instructor. Jecht is only ever seen, in any canon, in Tidus's light or memories of his journey with Braska; I'd like to get him out among a different crowd and see what he does.

Anything else? Aside from the abovementioned Final Aeon/GF thing... in the year-elapsed-since-arrival time, I imagine Jecht being a very shaky candidate for SEED/Instructor status; he tends to disdain magic and view GFs with awkward distaste and respect, believing them to be the province of Summoners and not guardians. What eventually tipped the scales in favor of him is just that the man is a beast in combat, used to working in a three-man team, and a decent enough guy WITHOUT special powers to be a good example of how the otherworlders can be good people who don't need to be slain. He'd have spent his year making a really good effort at learning, even if he wasn't the best at it, out of the belief that it was the 'right thing to do'.

He'd like to start a Blitzball team or two.

Complete TWO out of the FOUR options.
i) IC Questionnaire (can be found on the application page)
(As this questionnaire is entirely IC, your character is free to lie.)

What do you prefer to be known as? The Great Jecht -- ah, Jecht is fine.

How old are you?Well I ain't gettin' any younger. I'm still young enough to be useful.

Do you have any history in combat? Me and Braska and Auron got into all sorts of fights back on the pilgrimage. Course, one good night in the water sphere's as good as any ten fights with a fiend.

If so, have you ever killed? Heh! We dropped all sorts of fiends.

i) How do you feel when you get involved in some project that calls for immediate and rapid activity? I'm not the Great Jecht just because of my good looks, y'know.

ii) Do you organize and initiate leisure activities? Those words are too fancy. When you have time for fun, you have some fun, right?

iii) What role do you take when working in a group? Feels like I'm talkin' to a doctor here... I'm the big guy. The forward, the guardian, whatever.

iv) How talkative are you around other people? You keep asking me dumb questions like this and it's gonna be a lot less.

v) What three things would you want to have with you on a desert island? State your reasoning. Gimme my sword, a blitzball, and... a boat, why not.

vi) Is it important to be liked by a wide range of people? If it keeps 'em coming back to see more.

vii) When the odds are against you, is it worth taking a chance? You don't win games sittin' around waiting for the defenders to politely wander off and let ya take yer shot.

viii) Do you consider yourself to be an impulsive person? Mmm. Naw.

ix) Would you agree that planning things ahead takes the fun out of life? Planning for what?

x) Do you like surprises? Not any more.

xi) Do you sometimes wonder if there is something wrong with you? Everything I am, I made myself!

xii) Do you consider yourself to be smarter than your superiors, and disagree with their decisions? What superiors?

xiii) Lastly, how do you feel about cabbages? Seriously? You're gonna ask me all these dumb questions and end with that? This is a joke, isn't it?
