Yearz End

Not quite as good as Riverz End.

Anyway, srwalshon had a nice retrospective of his year, which I thought was quite nice. So a bit of my own. I kinda did one for 2003, but it was mostly statistics anyway. I'll do some of those too.

This year, I've added on 3 new countries (Japan, Thailand, and Chile), and one new continent (South America). I've also continued the trend of working on totally new (to me) technologies on every assignment. I caught Chinese New Year in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where I learned to play Mahjongg, seen a couple other odd festivals in both Taiwan and Japan, and played Ultimate on the beach in Chile.

I've also done a fair bit of biking.  Over 590 km (370 miles) logged on the odometer (sometimes I bike without it), for a total of 30.75 hours.  220km in Kaohsiung, 34km in Philadelphia, 100km in Japan, and 235km in Chile.  Some of it's road trips with a relatively high average speed (15-22 kph), some of it's mountain biking, with a pretty slow average speed (10-15 kph).  All in all, it was 16 rides, with the longest being 72 km, back in early January in Kaohsiung.  I've since gotten in much worse shape...

I've only taken 3 vacations.  10 days in Taiwan and Bangkok, 3 days in Tokyo (which didn't count as vacation to UOP), and 4 days in Pucon, Chile with my parents (also didn't count).  I've spent only 22 days in Chicago, and those 17 days of vacation.  The rest have been working abroad or in New Jersey (blech!).  With all of the missed holidays (all except Memorial Day and New Years Day) and rolled over vacation days, I will start 2005 with 45.5 vacation days + 10 new holidays (which I'm only required to use if I'm not on assignment).  So, essentially 55 days.  11 weeks!  I'm well on my (fanciful) goal to take a 4-6 month sabbatical in Taiwan to learn Chinese.

When it comes to music, I've acquired 67 more, including the 6 sitting at my parents' that I haven't heard yet.  Most of them are my normal fare, but 20 are foreign pop/rock/folk music.  5 Chilean, 3 Japanese, 10 Korean, 1 from Thailand, and 2 from Taiwan.  This brings my total to around 815 CDs.  Plus or minus.
