The Wurzels on the farm!

I went to see the Wurzels on stage in a barn on a farm last night. They were good as they always and the relatively small crowd, seemed to thoroughly enjoy the show.

However, having spent many years promoting concerts and events I was surprised at the very little publicity and promotion that took place for the gig, which I am certain would have swelled the crowd and thus the income.

The event was to raise money for the Masqueraders Carnival Club, and therefore for charity as the carnival itself raises thousands for charities every year.

Two years ago a quite large crowd attended this event which always takes place in August, but back then there was a big outdoor stage, a much larger audience area, and a lot more publicity and that was just for a few tribute acts!

Last year they decided to go inside the barn rather than build the outdoor stage and invited 70's chart toppers Bad Manners, and whilst audience numbers appeared lower than the year before, it was a damn good night.

Now don't get me wrong here, I'm NOT criticising the organisers as I know how hard it is to stage an event like this for charity with no budget, but I feel they missed a great opportunity to pull so many more people into the gig.

I think a weekend event on the farm with camping, two nights of music, stalls selling goods etc would be far more successful for them, and I think someone like the organisers of the Sunrise Celebration would be the ideal people to stage such an event.

I think lessons can be learned form this year's event.
