A Day at the Races!

Apr 17, 2009 10:06

Penny and I took a well-earned day off yesterday to go to Cheltenham Races with our good friends Trevor and Liz from The Cat & Cauldron/Witchcraft Shop etc.

I hadn't been to a race meeting before and nor had Penny so it was a different experience for us and we really enjoyed it! I lost a few bob in bets but that's mainly because I knew sod all about horses and their "form"! I was betting on names I liked and how the horses looked walking around the paddock before the race lol!

Trevor and Liz are members at Cheltenham and visit on a fairly regular basis, so know a lot more about it than I did!

I must admit I spent more time watching the horses on the big TV screen than on the actual course as they are some way away for the stand most of the time!

Princess Anne was there watching too, and she drove past quite close to us as she left midway through the meeting. Liz told me that many members of the royal family attend regularly and the Queen herself was there recently!

We drove home and ended the day with a curry at the Hawthorns Hotel in Glastonbury, where the owner does a fantastic "curry night" on Thursday each week with different authentic curry dishes from around the world. That was rounded off with drinks at the George & Pilgrim ending a lovely day out.

Thank you Liz & Trevor for a great day out!
