Ceiling Cat still having eye issues

He has yellowish mucas coming out of the tear duct in his right eye.
When he sleeps it hardens and he can't open his eye. I keep cleaning
it out with wet paper towel. I am afraid of long term damage. Vet said
it was part of upper repertatory infection. We'll see.
