crew fundraiser

Hi guys,

I hope you all had a great spring break! This Saturday my crew team is doing a fundraiser (its better explained below) anyway I would really appreciate it anyone could send even $1 to the address below, because we really need money. Thanks, and I'll talk to you guys later.

Greetings to all ERAU alumni rowers and supporters of ERAU crew.

We are over half way through the spring rowing season. Our men’s squad is composed mostly of lightweights and they have a pretty good lightweight eight. The heavyweights are rowing in fours now. The women have an eight, although some of them are new this spring. The women boat a varsity eight, a varsity four and a novice four.

The Embry-Riddle Crew team had a great start to this rowing season. Their first race was at Stetson against crews from University of Tampa, University of Florida and Stetson. ERAU fielded a women’s varsity four and a novice four. The men’s team fielded a lightweight 8 and a heavyweight 8. The lightweight 8 was able to take a gold medal rowing against heavyweights.

Our most recent race was the Petrakis Cup at Jacksonville. That turned into disaster. The course was covered with whitecaps and one shell swamped and some races were cancelled. We didn’t do much there. But the barbeque that John Petrakis puts on each year was great.

ERGATHON

Our yearly ergathon fundraiser will be held on Saturday the 1st of April. All of our rowers and coxswains will be rowing their best for an hour straight to raise money to support the program and hopefully to begin building a fund to buy a new boat. The crew squad is hopeful that you will be able to support one or more of the rowers. It is estimated that a heavyweight rower will row between 13,000 and 15,000 meters. A lightweight oarsman likely will row between 12,000 and 14,000 meters. The women should post results of 10,000 to 13,000 meters and I don’t know what the coxswains will do. A roster of all the rowers and coxswains participating in this event will be posted on our webpage-
Http://www.eraucrew.com http://www.eraucrew.com/
The results of the ergathon will also be posted there.

We would be delighted if you would pick one of the rowers from the squad and support them with a donation whether it is by the meter, by the rower, by a lump sum or whatever you decide. Anyone donating $25.00 or more is automatically considered a member of Alumni and Supporters of ERAU Crew. Anyone donating $100.00 will receive a T-shirt and anyone donating $500.00 has an oar waiting for them at the boathouse.

In the past we have asked for contributions to be sent to the Annual Fund. However, we have had some trouble identifying contributors that should receive a hat or T-shirt or an oar and it took considerable time to process the funds. Therefore, we are asking that you send any contributions to Crew Team, Student Activities, ERAU, 600 So. Clyde Morris Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Checks should be made out to Halifax Rowing Association. That will be a tax-deductible donation. As you know, Coach Quinn and several of the rowers in town started the Halifax Rowing Association to assist in obtaining a boathouse for the Association and for ERAU rowing. Halifax Rowing Association has established an account for the ERAU crew ergathon and our records will be more complete as well as the donations more readily available.

We have two more events this spring. They are the FIRA (Florida State Championships) and SIRA (Southern Intercollegiate Championships) regattas. FIRA will be held just outside of Miami on a new race course rather than at Tampa this year. We are anxious to see what the men’s lightweight varsity eight can do against some lightweights. They have had to row against heavyweights so far this year, but there will be lightweight eights at both FIRA and SIRA

Be sure to check our webpage and gallery often! New pictures of races
and practices are always being added. Also, please be aware that the
ERAU Crew email address has changed. It is now dbcrew@erau.edu
. No emails will be accepted at the old
earthlink account.
