The Demise of Kyle XY
This is a really really dumb rant about TV. I don't know why I care so much about it. It probably has something to do with me not having a real life.
As I said before Kyle XY is a new favorite show of mine. Two days after I watched all the episodes to catch up, it was canceled. After the third episode of Season 3 it was decided that the show was not going to be renewed for a fourth season; the reason being that it had low ratings.
The show had been on a hiatus from March '08-Jan'09.
When it returned, it was put up in a time slot against Heroes and 24.
I read that The Secret Life of the American Teenager was renewed and was ABC Family's most popular show.
When I saw the previews for that show last year, I thought that there was no way that it was going to be good. I was curious to see why it was so popular so I watched the Pilot on youtube. Needless to say that I wish I could get those 42 minutes of my life back. How in the world can anyone stand to watch that show? It has the WORST writing and acting I've ever seen. I can't believe anyone watches it and thinks it is quality programming. It's totally laughable not even the great Molly Ringwald can save it. AND IT STILL GOT RENEWED! I mean how long is the main character going to be pregnant? the whole series? After she has it, the show is over! And they're not going to renew a show that's story is always developing with different plot twists and can go on for at least 3 more seasons? That's ridiculous!
My only guess as to why ABC Family put Kyle XY in that specific time slot was because they realized the demographic for both shows was different and Secret Life was bringing in more mindless teeny-boppers so why not pit Kyle XY against other really popular shows so it will tank. Then they could make more shows that don't require thinking like Roommates and Sophia that also look very cheaply made and hope for the same success. Hopefully they will tank horribly. After seeing the pilot for Secret Life and seeing the previews for those other two shows I realized it was no wonder I never watched ABC Family before. That channel is ghey. it's just a bunch of shows with recycled plots. I read one review that said "The Secret Life of the American Teenager is the K-mart version of 90210" and it's so true. Does anyone have any good ORIGINAL ideas anymore. The TV and Movie industries are out of ideas. Today, the popular thing is Vampires. There is Twilight, True Blood, Moonlight(which just got canceled), and there is a new vampire show coming on the CW called The Vampire Diaries. Over-saturation is killing the entertainment business. WE DO NOT NEED ANYMORE REMAKES!!!!!!!
They need to stop with the remaking of older films and television shows. 90210 and Melrose Place are being remade! No one wants to watch them. IF you are thinking of remaking a show or movie, at least do it cleverly ie: Batman Begins/ The Dark Knight.
I wish I had sense enough to not watch TV or Movies but I don't want to miss something that's worth my time, plus I'm American and that's what we do. hahahaha
