Mom's Baklava (makes 2 trays)

Syrup:

1 1/2 cup sugar granulated sugar
1 lime squeezed in cup with strainer
1 cup water
3 spoons of rose water (not really measured)
Low heat
Mix sugar with water and squeezed lime
Stir and watch until bubbles and slight slight thickening (thicker better than thinner)
Turn heat off
Put in rose water and stir
Cover and put in fridge overnight

Baklava directions:

Preheat 350
(Optional) package of raisins rinsed
2 16oz of uncrushed walnuts (chop up)
2 boxes of fillo dough
Two towels to keep dough moist
2 packages of unsalted butter
some granulated sugar



  • chop your walnuts
  • fine but not too fine




  • Moisten towels



one for the bottom and one to lay on top of the dough
  • Cut up the butter.
  • With the butter, stir on very low heat.
  • Brush pan with butter
  • Take two sheets, lay horizonal. A side will be over, butter them, fold, butter all again and fold.

  • Lay down half of the fillo and now add nuts.

  • Add optional raisins
  • FUCK RAISINS



i personally hate raisins
  • Cut the baklava before cooking

  • Use the middle rack and bake
  • cook time will vary depending on oven, watch for a golden color
  • pour the syrup over the baklava fresh out of the oven

  • Best to let it set a day if you're going to divvy it up for gifts. (But tastes even more amazing when still warm!)
