IC Information:
Name: Cloud Strife
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Timeline: Crisis Core (pre-FFVII)
Age: 19
Appearance:
With his infamous spiky, blonde hair, a massive hulking sword, and piercing, deep blue eyes, it would seem that this guy has all the makings of a true, full-fledged hero. Often mocked for his small size, he makes up for it in the heat of battle, being able to move swiftly. Having lived in the mountains as well, Cloud's skin is almost ghostly pale to the point of where it should be unhealthy. Perhaps ShinRa couldn't afford any tanning beds in the Training Room? Or he just didn't feel like using them?

Cloud's attire isn't anything impressive or flashy, though Zack's statement is shared when it 'looks good on him'. His clothes are black, for the most part, with large, heavy shoulder guards accompanied with thick, leather straps reaching down to his torso. Because of Cloud's small size, the outfit sags a little, and the pauldrons are far too big. Combat has not been tested yet, but it doesn't seem intelligent to fight in it.

Deep, brown gloves lay upon his hands, and the shirt is made of something seemingly quite expensive - cotton or wool, the same as the other SOLDIER, First Class attires. His belt is a large steel buckle, with the ShinRa emblem engraved in the center and two smaller, leather belts supporting the hulking thing. Cloud's pants are also made of a strange black cotton, reaching down into thick, brown boots. A small, white piercing rests upon his left ear as well, as so many males have in ShinRa.

Cloud's eyes may be the trait that stands out the most, however. While not originally a member of SOLDIER, one could easily mistake him for one by the lividity of his eyes; bright blue and glowing, with a touch of emerald bleeding out around the pupil like a watercolour mixture. Possibly a result of the Jenova cells injected into him, or simply the mako's effect, they are quite interesting to look at.

Abilities: Cloud's main gift is his unusual strength and power, even if it often doesn't seem like it. While not yet very skilled with a sword, he would feel more comfortable with a pistol or a machine gun, from years of handling monsters in the Infantry, or possibly a Materia or two on hand.

Aside from outside weapons, physical combat is Cloud's secondary means of defense. Skilled in moving quick, and basic martial arts combat, hands and feet would be the only weapons he would need if left bare.

Personality:
Unlike his older self, Cloud is a little more open to conversation and willing to let people help out. Mainly quiet and timid in nature, the right trigger can cause him to completely take off. Make a nasty remark about his home or family? How about a gun at your head in return? Cloud may not say much, but he means business when it all comes down to it, and is in no possible way weak or a coward. He stands up for what he believes in, without any backing down.

Once Cloud gets to know a person, however, he tends to open up more, and even jokes around from time to time, being almost sarcastic. Cloud is naive, and very trusting to those who seem decent enough back. Complex matters often fly over his head, leaving him often left out of the joke or conversation.

Hey, he's still a kid.

Above everything else, Cloud mostly yearns for attention. He wants to be noticed, to be somebody. He will take great risks, without even thinking of what those risks are, and simply go with the flow until something happens, and is always willing to help out and protect his allies. He wants friends, he wants to be liked, he wants to be important. Certain things, he is hesitant to face, but give him time, and he'll find the courage to do it.

History: Cloud was always an outsider, in his hometown of Nibelheim. He wasn't largely liked by the other children, and often left as the butt of the joke or many causes of blame, due to his inability to fight back or do something about it. It was when his childhood friend, Tifa Lockhart's, mother died that he finally gained the courage to join her in the mountains after her three other friends had decided to turn tail and run. Mt. Nibel was large, dangerous, and loaded with monsters, but he had been worried.

Someone should have tied down that bridge better, however.

The rope snapped about halfway, and both were sent tumbling into the deep gorge below; Cloud escaping with only a few scrapes and bruises, but Tifa falling into a coma for about a week. Always the scapegoat, Cloud was immediately blamed for the accident, and the boy's guilt for this only grew from that point on.

He wanted to make something of himself, to prove to everyone he could make a difference. After hearing reports about the legendary SOLDIER hero Sephiroth, Cloud resolved to leave his hometown and join ShinRa. Sitting upon the well overlooking the small, backwater town, Cloud called Tifa up one night and made a promise: He would join SOLDIER and become First Class, and if she was ever in a pinch, he would immediately come to rescue her. Promise made, Cloud leaves the next morning.

This wouldn't be the fate he had planned.

Several years after, he failed to make it into SOLDIER, not proving to have been tough enough, and fell within the ranks of ShinRa's Infantrymen. Assigned to a mission with SOLDIER First Class Zack and the Turk leader Tseng to Modeoheim, their chopper mysteriously went down and crashed in a pit of flames. It is here that Cloud met Zack for the first time, and the two immediately click. Both wound up to be 'country boys', as they've labeled themselves, and joked about the other being so. After the incident at Modeoheim, Cloud spent more time with Zack off-screen, often seen in the DMW cutscenes in Crisis Core, and built a trust with the older man, even becoming best friends.

Perhaps a year or two afterwards, Cloud and one other Infantryman are assigned on a mission to his hometown of Nibelheim, commanded by Zack, and General Sephiroth. The information in the basement of ShinRa manor, about the Jenova Project, and about Sephiroth himself begins to worry the older man, and he was left to lock himself away for about a week with barely any contact with the outside world.

Everything went to hell from there.

Finally emerging from his 'hibernation', Sephiroth burned down the village and attacked Cloud, killing his mother, and Tifa's father just outside of the reactor containing the specimen. Cloud followed not too far behind, driving the discarded Buster Sword straight through the older man's abdomen, demanding he return everything he'd taken away. Rushing back into the other room, Cloud tended to a severely wounded Tifa and placed her somewhere out of the way and safe. While doing so, Sephiroth stumbled back in, intending to leave with the head of Jenova in his grasp. Cloud was ordered by a barely-conscious Zack to kill Sephiroth and the Infantryman rushed the former General, gaining a masamune straight through the stomach for his trouble.

Hanging from the longsword, Cloud regained his composure and turned the sword against Sephiroth, lifting him into the air and actually throwing the other man down the reactor, to be presumed dead.

Severely wounded himself, Cloud collapsed, and was taken with Zack by the ShinRa for experimentations for four years.

Cloud remained comatose for the majourity of the trip back to Midgar, upon their escape of ShinRa Manor, and finally awakened to find carnage all around on a cliff overlooking the massive city, along with a certain dying SOLDIER not too far away. Struggling to drag himself along, still regaining consciousness, Cloud attempted to speak with the older man, though it's difficult, and slowly takes the Buster Sword given to him, with orders to live out both their lives. Still confused, and not really understanding what was happening, Cloud quietly agreed, and the SOLDIER in front of him passed away.

Roleplay Sample - Log: The morning had been cool and quiet when he awoke from his bed, bright blue eyes gazing out to the rising sun with a look of sorrow and longing. This place was so new, so confusing... unlike anywhere he'd even been before. Crabs, Cloverfield... captors? Messages? Like lab experiments running around in a cage?

He didn't like that thought.

Shivering a little, and realizing he would look a bit silly for it, the young blonde draped the thin blanket around himself and sid off the mattress, bare feet padding against the cold, wooden floor and slapping as he carefully walked out of the abandoned apartment. He would need to find some slippers before he went outside; there was still debris. Maybe a little bit of breakfast too, but... hadn't he been told to mind the food as well? Did that mean no breakfast?

Well... he had to eat something.

Making his way to the kitchen, he began rifling through the old cabinets, through boxes of expired rice, cereal, and doughnuts to find what he was looking for; a small granola bar, still good to eat. Sitting down on the chair by the table, the boy looked down at the mixture of grain and wheat in his hand, as if that would answer all of his questions. If this was how he was going to survive, he would have to make do, right?

One single, ridiculous thought passed through his mind, despite everything: 'I can make something of myself here. I'm free.'

Roleplay Sample - Journal: Hey. Hey, is anybody getting this? I found some kind of phone... thing. Is it supposed to be mine?

...

Just...

If anyone else is here, please tell me what's going on. My name is Cloud. I shouldn't be here, wherever this is. I need to leave.
