Changes

You might think that it’s impossible for ordinary people to change anything, that the world and politics are just too complicated, that no matter what any of us do there is nothing that can be done to change the nature of people.

So to all of you that think that way - I want to make sure that you realize that it’s because of people like you that nothing changes. You pile heaps of impossibility onto the world to such an extent that you help build your own prison, which only helps to sustain our current reality. Once in that prison you must make sure that everyone else suffers the same idiotic fate. Terrorism, exploitation, false government, corporate greed, it’s all made possible by people locked in prisons that don’t have the courage to think they matter, to surrender themselves to a greater endeavor beyond their own prosperity, and continue to think those who believe that change is possible are hippie morons"

I take your point totally and I think that the worst thing ever is for people to turn their backs on it all because they've given up the thought of ever being able to change anything, but it's also true that when you look at the world, it keeps getting worse and worse, and it's hard to see what to do, it's very easy to despair. So in a way I guess I understand it when people are like that. I mean I think it's stupid to dismiss people who believe in the goodness in the world and who can see ways to change things for the better, but I understand when others are cynical, you can just look around and feel like anything that is good is fighting a losing battle.

The three minutes silence thing was amazing, because i guess it shows that the terorists trying to create division and fear are failing, as that was a show of solidarity. However, the thing is, will it stop the terrorists carrying on with what they do? I'm not condoning violent action at all, and I actually came to that realisation the other day that war never works. I was kinda confused on that and then I read a few things and realised that violence was ultimately futile. The thing is, I cannot see what peaceful protest will do either? I mean I don't really have enough knowledge of world history and politics to make a realy informed statement on that I guess, but I can't see terrorists stopping because people protest against them.

I kinda find myself believing, probably somewhat idealistically, that education is the ultimate answer to everything - educate the people about other nations so there is no fear about other cultures and so on, educate the next generation of Palestinians and Israelis so that they learn to respect each others' cultures and can live in peaceful co-existence, and so on. Then I guess there's too much corruption for such a thing to be feasible - but if somebody went out and set up schools in Israel and Palestine, that would teach this kind of thing, unbiased teaching about other cultures, without the prejudices of old grudges and hates, then perhaps it would start to help. Maybe that's a way to help untangle the tangles (or maybe thats naive and could never happen in light of the current situation)
