i've never been one to defend our president. i've never been one to stand up against, say, hugo chavez in the name of our commander in chief.
however.
i'm listening to his interview with
Tavis Smiley on npr. Tavis asked Chavez why he called the president the devil. Chavez responded by saying, in principal, "it was to be a humerous act...people were smiling..."
just as much as i have never been one to run to Bush's rescue, i've never been a political analysis.
however.
it seems like there is, in chavez's statements, just like our president's from time to time, some room for misinterpretation. misinterpretation in that he may actually have meant it to be a humerous little number. something tugs at me inside, though - you can't really say those things in front of the UN, especially when you already have somewhat of a combative relationship with the leader to whom you are "poking fun" at.
my thoughts are jumbled.
you should listen in on this conversation. i am listening through
KUOW - Seattle's NPR affiliate.
