Tutorial 12 - Doctor Who

Making
from
, in the GIMP.

Started with my base; For the curious, it's from the Fourth Doctor serial 'City of Death', which is possibly one of my favourites of all time. And I shall stop digressing now.

Sharpened it a bit. Play around with this, because oversharpening can look rather terrible.

Duplicate, set to Soft Light at 100.

Set this texture (a crop of one of inxsomniax's larger textures) and set it to multiply at 100. It looks a bit silly right now, but bear with me here.

Layer of a pinkish-purple (I used eeceef) set to Burn at 100.

Layer of pale blue (I used cee2ef) set to Burn at 100. I erased everything except the parts over the background, to give the icon a little more depth without blocking his face out completely.

Filled a new layer with a pale-grey-to-white gradient, so that the grey occupied only the top left corner. Then went to Filters >> Noise >> Scatter HSV, and tweaked the settings till I got something like this. Set that to Multiply at 100.

New layer. I copied all the visible stuff (Edit >> Copy Visible) and pasted that in; set it to screen at about 30. Added a little more texture, and there one has it.
