True Blood

A friend highly recommended a series of books called the Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. I was delighted by the books and very surprised to find out I'm getting a new show to boot.
A Japanese company has developed and marketed a new synthetic blood called True Blood that allows vampires to live peacefully among us. They've come out of the closet..er..out of the coffin, so to speak.
The books had great small-town characters and it looks like HBO is going to stay true to the flavor of the books. They are more mysteries than horror books, and the best part...they are also funny.
The show runner is Allen Ball (American Beauty, Six Feet Under.)
