hahaha, i love your mom! your mom haggling at a department store sounds so cute. i can see her doing that after she buys a sable coat without batting an eyelash. (75k for a sable coat is actually not bad. i saw some badgley mischka ones for 99k this season, which is probably still reasonable.) i'm the same way about certain things, like i went to buy erasers and i was upset i had to buy a pack for $2 instead of just one for 50 cents yet i find it acceptable to spend 10K+ on a bag. lol
i've often wondered what your mom was like. they say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree so i would expect her to have quite the collection of exotic birkins, kellys and bolides. i think it's strange that she doesn't like Hermes bags and you love them. i first learned about Hermes from my mom (luckily not from sex in the city!). so besides chanel, what handbags does she like? what couture is she into? if i had to pick 7 top things that would sum up my mom's style ethic they would be: st. john, hermes, chanel, lv, mercedes benz, rolex, cartier. you?
my mom loves roger vivier. thats probably the most accurate image of her. she loves chanel, valentino, prada, jaguars, chopard, tse, old dior, moschino, marc jacobs collection and more avant garde stuff like some comme des garcon and junya watanabe and ivan grundahl. shes basically a high end mod. she does love the exotic bags- she gave me a croc prada clutch. she loves furs. she appreciates my appreciation for Hermes and im actually really annoyed that she doesnt like the bags more because then i could get some from her haha but whatever. she loves their scarves and thats pretty much it.
Haha..to me St. John is not really a common brand, but my mom and my aunt (both Korean which makes me think it's an Asian thing) and all of their friends go CRAZY over the clothes. Personally I think they're boring and matronly so I will pass on her St John suits when she gives me all her old things.
there was one season when paris wore a couple of their suits and the first season that angelina started modeling for them - those were the only times they had anything remotely young looking. i don't know if it's something i'll grow into when i become older but i'll probably pass on my mom's st. john, too. there's one couture suit that i recently snagged from her closet that is so cute though. i've been meaning to have it altered.
