Wow, your impressions of Berlin are really interesting! I went to Berlin on a day trip a couple of years ago, and since I'm Russian, the East side of town was not at all exotic to me XD So I spent all day on the West side. My main impression was of the lovely Art Nouveau buildings of Hackescher Markt/Hackesche Höfe and of learning about Lena Hoschek (a designer who combines folk and retro). Your impressions were obviously quite different, I'm looking forward to the rest! ^^
Yes, you're right saying it is a bit "exotic" for us to see some traces of Communist architecture. Yeah! I loved this Jugenstyle building too! This is one of the best discover in our stay! It must be some pictures in a post to come ;) And I loved this North district of Mitte where it is located. I have to check more about Lena Hoschek, even if I read a little about her before!
In fact, what we did not really liked was more the quarter around Postdamer Platz, with Sony Center and huge buildings, etc...
