More Woodburning... with a step by step

Feb 23, 2010 21:26

So I did some more woodburning recently... and in doing so I decided my next project would be documented step by step. I've done another basswood slice - a steampunkish cameo of a woman, and a box with an eastern dragon on it. The box has the step by step pics. Hope you all enjoy!

This is my steampunk cameo. :)

Now for the box:

Step 1: Transfer design to paper and attach to box. I don't ever trace/transfer details; I try to leave as much as possible to freehand. I just don't have the drawings skills to freehand everything though, so the outlines get traced. I'm using graphite paper as opposed to carbon in order to minimize burnoff(Carbon melts and leaves this nasty stain on the wood)

Ready to burn....

Almost done the outline. This is the tip I used throughout the entire piece.

Now the freehand work starts. I look off of the picture most of the time, but every now and then I come up with my own stuff, I promise!

The finished project. ~5 hours

Pic for reference of size.
