I could use some cheering up - awesome plans fell through, I hate people, blah blah emo blah - so how about some Umbrella Academy squee? Because...
New Umbrella Academy!!!!!!
My impressions as I read it:
THE PRIME-8S. HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA. THEY HAD A CHIMP DRUMMER. WITH A MOHAWK. AND CHEESY 80S SHADES. HAHAHAHHAHAA. GERARD YOUR MONKEY FETISH IS SHOWING.
AND THE LYRICS TO THIER SONG! I DON'T KNOW IF I PREFER TO THINK OF IT AS REJECTS FROM GERARD'S OWN LYRICS, OR CRAP HE AND LYN-Z AND FRANK BY THE LOOKS OF IT CAME UP WITH WHILE LOL-ING THEIR ASSES OFF. I DON'T WANNA LIVE IN YOUR SOAP-STAR GRAVEYARD!!!! ♥
I love that one of the audience members is wearing a Misfits jacket. And that Vanya is totally dressed like Mikeyway, coat and all.
And Vanya and Kraken were gonna run off together to live in a van and rock the punk lifestyle!!!! <3 (AND KRAKEN'S ROOM IS SO WAY I CAN'T EVEN HANDLE IT. ♥)
I don't know why Kraken being a bass player makes me squee, but IT DOES.
AND HAHAHA THE INFAMOUS MIME GANG. ILU GERARD WAY.
Poor Vanya. Abandoned by her brother! Even if it was for a good cause! (Her H8 Dad sticker on her guitar!)
And my thoughts afterward:
I know I'm like a shipper, but I love the dynamic this further sets up between Vanya and Kraken. They're the rebels - Vanya because she's the outsider, and Kraken by choice - any this re-emphasizes that. Kraken has more responsibility to the team than Vanya, and like Hargreeves or not, he feels enough for his siblings to save them at the cost of his utopian future with Vanya away from the superhero lifestyle.
And poor Vanya!
I harp on about it, but Vanya is so Gerard. And I love the stuff he puts in there about music, and its importance, and just. GERARD WAY STOP MAKING ME LOVE YOU THIS MUCH.
And somehow I'd never read the first Myspace Presents Umbrella Academy story!
...I totally broke out in actual laughter at the line, "I don't have a lot of patience for gypsies." LOL, KRAKEN. (It made me imagine the UA verse having some sort of gypsy problem. Roving fortune-tellers on every street corner!)
Basically this is a simple enough story but I love the Kraken (totally the Jason Todd of the Umbrella Academy) and his brand of blase badassery and UGH I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS UNIVERSE.
