Food waste is a loss of life. Food tossed out is a commentary on our society.

The documentary I'm watching is called "Dive" about food waste in America. It's really interesting and I"m shocked at how much Trader Joe's throws away. They've gone to locking their dumpsters so those who want to dumpster dive for food can't. I'm not up for dumpster diving but I've known people over the years who got the majority of their food from the dumpster in the US. In the UK I knew a guy who went to Pret a Manger every night to pick up all the caste offs. He had a deal with them that instead of throwing it in a large dumpster they'd let him pick through it first. He would sort through the rubbish and bring home sandwiches. He'd separate all the parts, frying up the turkey or ham, tossing lettuce, etc. and fed himself on it. He lost over 100lbs doing this.

I'm on a kick about waste as cleaning up my flat I was shocked by the amount of waste I generated and it does actually upset me. There should be no reason for me to create 3 bags of trash in 2 weeks. The amazing amount of packaging which comes with everything is depressing.
