So the latest issue of The Flash: Rebirth hit stands today. And it has this really lovely description of the Speed Force (and speedsters' relationship to it) that I sort of wrote about already as one of Bart's prompts, but now it's been put down in a canon book in a very nice and succinct way.
Sooo, I'm typing it up. Because I want to. This is Barry Allen's narrative as he returns to the Speed Force, trying to save his friends and family from himself.
"A band of muscle in my thigh tightens up. A surge runs down my spine as it ignites. Flesh transforms into electricity. And I remember. I remember what happened when I became a part of the Speed Force. The Hindu scriptures of the Upanishads describe a transpersonal afterlife -- an infinite reality called Brahman. Like the Speed Force, you become a part of this enigmatic light. And while there's a sense of ultimate awareness that's gained, answers to unanswerable questions and a perspective on the universe as if it were an ant farm -- I've learned you trade who you are for it. You lose any semblance of individuality."
There is also a part of the story in which Wally explains that Linda was his personal lightning rod, keeping him from losing himself in the Speed Force, and saying that if Barry could have that with Iris, maybe he wouldn't be lost. This fits into my personal fanon of a specific person being the reason Bart isn't lost to the Speed Force, after he sort of Sees Lots of Stuff and life Stretches Out Before Him and all of that.
Also, the Kid Flash uniform still sucks, and it looks like the Reverse Flash, and it's stupid and make Bart be Impulse if he's going to be all back and alive but can't be the Flash or something else. I'm just sayin'. Also
yay Max!
