From the Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer

I saw The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947). In one scene, Cary Grant's character acts obnoxiously like a high school boy. He comes over to the house to go with the family on a school picnic, having to be the date for Shirley Temple's character. He stuffs his pant legs into his socks and jumps around youthfully.

CG: You remind me of a man.
ST: What man?
CG: The man with a power.
ST: What power?
CG: The power of hoodoo.
ST: Hoodoo?
CG: You do.
ST: Do what?
CG: Remind me of a man.
ST: Oh, you! (Or something silly like that)

And so on and so on. It was fun, it was snappy. I found it so incredibly funny because it was so dorkily old fashioned. So, I tried it out on a friend. It didn't turn out quite as I expected.

Me: You remind me of a man.
Friend: Nancy! I can't believe you said that to me! That's so ru...
Me: (Clearly ignoring her) The man with a power!
Friend: Whaaaat? What's going on? What power?
Me: The power of hoodoo.
Friend: What's...hoodoo?
Me: (groan)

Ah. I tried.
