Facies

Noun
  • Appearance.
  • Facial features, like an expression or complexion, typical for patients having certain diseases or conditions.
Used in a sentence:
  • He had facies that suggested that it would not be long before he would be lumbering back up onto his feet with a voracious appetite and a lust for human flesh.

Commentary:

Primarily used in medicine, I thought this was interesting. It’s a plural noun with no singular form. Like scissors but not like pants, which has a singular form it just isn’t used all that often. I find it amusing that it is a word that effectively means appearance that is so similar to the word face.
