I thought that some of you might enjoy the discourse Stephen Fry and Jonathan Ross have about language. I think its really interesting the points that Stephen brings up. Though I do agree with him that language evolves, such as with portmandeus and new uses for old words, I think that text message language has it's place. Grammar and correct spelling makes things easier to read because different people may read things differently, which is why ruleless early written English is so hard to understand to our modern eyes. Text message or lolcatz ir whatever should only be used in text messaging when you are charged by the word,not when you can write out proper sentances, like on the internet. I'm all for language evolving and changing with the times so that we can understand new concepts and create new language, but language by definition has rules. English grammar is wonky enough without messing with it. Yes i said wonky.
