There are moments - flashing, flickering, and barely present - between the cacophony of battle and the press of silence, between the echo of the Castle and the airy warmth of the clock tower, moments when Xion believes that she can open her eyes and see what she wants to see.
It is all she can do to sit with the ground swaying below her, sun shining from above, and talk lightly of things that, come tomorrow, will be lost like whispers into the night. For what is more important - on the minds and consciences of all thirteen (fourteen) - than becoming whole again.
And Xion must play along, for she has no other choice.
She must pretend, for her own sake.
She knows that he lies to them, to her and Roxas. Underneath his scent of smoke and shadows and nothingness, she knows that he clutches to things that he would never say. It is all she can do to see his calculating, green eyes tinted by the sunset and cold demeanor washed out by laughter, and believe that he loves her the way she wishes he could.
It is all Xion can do. She knows that it is her and only her who will be alone, never to gain what she so immensely desires. So she must take what she has, and do with it what she can.
