Hey.
The best kept words are short and sweet, right? I'll try to limit myself then. Every year, there's some degree of musing about this day - today - Valentine's Day. We try to impress our girlfriends, or boyfriends - we set out to woo them. Capturing hearts and putting our own in the crosshairs - the point underlying being this: the exchange of romance.
On Valentine's Day we are all merchants, peddling our love to one another. This is all fine and well - some people hate the commercialism of it, but it's for a good cause, right? There is a problem though - one tiny, little problem.
It's that whole 'one another' part. I mean, you just know that there are people just sitting across our campus, on others, at home, in the office, bored enough to wade through something like this... what about the bored? The depressed? The people who think Valentine's Day isn't for them,, or worse - those who embrace it with a false smile... what about them?
To you reading this, to everyone - if you have or haven't heard it yet today - I love you. That's what today is about. It's about love, and love is universal - every one of us needs to remember that as happy or sad as we may be, single or taken. Today, somebody saw you enter the room, and lit up. Seriously. No matter how cool or nerdy you are, hot or dumpy - you made at least one person's day today, just by being you and walking by. Think about that, and know that you're loved.
Valentine's Day isn't about some divine act of love towards the one and only person you long for - it's just about making someone - anyone - smile and feel acknowledged. Hopefully, I did just that. No labels, no names, no worries - the only thing which exists today is that smile.
Now it's your turn, yeah? Do for someone else what I just tried to do for you.
Regards to all, and love,
