Thoughts on Kilts

Seeing as we live in Scotland and we're planning what, for 95% of our guests, will be a destination wedding, it makes sense for Chris to wear a kilt. When we first got together he spent a lot of time telling me how he wasn't comfortable with the idea of wearing a kilt but that, for me, he would consider it. After the first or second time I got this ( Read more... )

kilt, dress, wedding planning

I've been asked why Chris will be wearing a kilt since we're neither of us Scottish, nor are we of Scottish extraction* - our antecedents may not have been Scottish but if/when we have kids, our descendants will be.

* actually, I am** but we're not using "my family" tartan

** tbh I'm of just-about-every-Western-European-Country extraction.

are you interested in your family tartans at all? I keep on thinking I'd like to get a bit of McFarlane tartan... but usually when I see it, I'm not so fussed that I'm actually willing to spend *money* on it...

My mother bought some. It's very, um, loud. Also it's her side of the family so not my name so not much of a connection.

** I'm going to be difficult and say that I just asked Google Maps to be sure, and there is no High Street in Worksop proper. The high street in Worksop is called Bridge Street, and Bridge Place, depending on which bit of it you are on...

But do you call it The High Street? To confuse tourists and whatnot? Not that I can imagine Worksop has a booming tourism industry but someone has to wander through by mistake...

well if we said I bought it on the high street, I suppose people would know what you meant. Usually I call it "town" or "the town center". Note that I while I live in Worksop, I seldom go out or talk to its residents (fulfilling my sweaty internet nerd persona*, clearly) so I suppose others COULD call it the high street.

*I shower regularly but cycle or jog most days, that's a GOOD excuse for being a sweaty internet nerd**.
** I never do these footnote things but you've inspired me

This answers a question I was going to pose to Chris later on, in that if he was going bespoke tartan or something else, meaning could I wear my family's tartan as a groomperson or was it going to be matched to the groom?

I do look fabulous in purples/grey. :)

Is your timeline for kilt-decision the same for venue/date or is it pushed out a bit more?

Isn't it popular to have a wedding in Scottish style (in kilts not only for the groom)? I guess it is still original after all...

PS Like guys in kilts:D
