A Lead on a Dress

I don't like the idea of buying a dress that I can never wear again and in the modern world a white evening gown is a wedding dress. On the other hand, in my current life, it's not exactly like opportunities to wear a non-white evening gown are knocking the door down. Should I find myself attending a formal function, I have the dress I wore as Miss ( Read more... )

Girl, you rock the big white floofy dress. I remember (and I might have pictures somewhere) of a Gaskills Halloween where you wore your corset and petticoats and looks wonderful. I suggest you push against tradition and show those people how white is suppose to be worn for more than just a wedding. It only started with Queen Victoria, the tradition isn't that old.

In my minds eye, I see you wearing a white dress with wide black trim (for some reason, I think this is based on your Gaskills outfit). The dress would not be "white" but black and white which falls into a completely different category. The back trim (bands) could be added afterwards. Yes an evening dress is not as required where you are now but if you did something in a cocktail dress? Do the convertible thing and build the foofy skirt onto of a cocktail dress. Since it is a summer wedding, I can see the wedding gown version with something like a yellow trim (don't know why yellow other than summer before Labor Day stuff) to be replaced with black later on. Or some such.

I agree with your mother, it would be a shame for you not to wear white. On another point, I don't agree with your mother, it would be a shame for you to wear white only at your wedding. Like I said, you rock the white. You also rock the black and red, i.e. your Nazzgrl dress. Maybe the wedding dress could be an underdress for something that would go over it like you did for the Nazzgrl.

Just ideas. I see weddings as options to have fun with clothes. You can always take the position that you are a crazy American from California and get away with more than "normal." :)
