Asthma

My father just learned that I have asthma. I just learned that my grandfather had asthma. For the first time in my life I'm hearing about how he (my grandfather) used to cough and cough and it freaked my father out and he (my father) used to watch us (my brothers and I) for any signs of asthma 'cause he was worried it would skip a generation.

We'll skip over the fact that my father obviously wasn't watching all _that_ closely or he would've noticed how I coughed until I threw up for years, how at least four times a year I'd lose my voice for a week from all the coughing, how everyone knew this except evidently him. Skipping over all that, it _really_ would've been helpful if he'd ever mentioned this so that finding out that I have asthma when I'm 27 wouldn't come as quite such a surprise.

Anyhoo, apparently I have a family history of asthma. Live and learn, right?

health, family
