Hey those are some great things! The part about being a good mother because people enjoy your kids says volumes about you. I didn't know you were a speech therapist, a profession I considered entering at one point in my life. I am fascinated by it. How did you get into it?

Well, I started as a nursing major, and then realized that if I couldn't hack chemistry (which is really ironic considering I married a chemist!) then biochemistry and microbiology were probably not a good idea, so I went looking for another major. I ended up with two possibilities, race course management (I love horses) and Speech Therapy. My father informing me that he wouldn't fund racetrack management as a carrier sort of made up my miind for me! I do love it though, it's a great way to meld an interest in medicine with a passion for singing! (My minor is not music either, it is ed psych and rehab)

I'd love to hear a recording of you singing. :)

How did you get into speech therapy? What did you study in school?

I don't think there are any recordings of me singing on the computer, I'll have to see! I started as a nursing student, but then switched to speech therapy. Strangely enough, my minor was in educational psychology and rehabilitation with almst a third minor in gerontology, I only needed one more class, but decided to take history of england istead. If I had it to do over again I would have minored in vocal performance, but I had no confidence in my ability to sing at that time, Burt, my husband, carefully nurtured that in me!

What I do now, with speech therapy at least, is do everything from screening pre-schoolers to working wth multiply disabled jr. high students. I'm also a part of the district wide autism assessment team, and work with several students with autism on a couple of my campuses. Oh, and I also supervise another therapist and help with Assistive Technology testing district wide.

Is it any wonder I'm too tired to write a lot?
